Late, but worth a link

The concert being reviewed was more than a week ago, but LA Weekly’s Matt Welch has a review that’s still worth the quick read — mainly for the funny photo caption it has, and I love the paragraph that ends with Edge being called “Bastard.” Good stuff, and thx Julie for the tip.

Hope for Las Vegas ticket seekers

For those who were wondering about the lack of GA’s during the ticket sale for the November 4th Las Vegas gig - word came from the U2 camp that there are still GA tickets left for the Nov. 4 show in the u2.com allocation (if you haven’t already used your membership pre-sale code), and there were some in the public sale for general purchase.

As people going to the shows can tell you, keep checking Ticketmaster as tickets get released (slowly) leading up to the concert - you might still be able to get tickets for this - and any other upcoming U2 show.

The band are also very good about releasing GA’s the day of the show to help thwart scalpers too.

And, if there are any scalpers reading this - you’ll look mighty obvious in line if you’re buying the ticket and turning around trying to sell it. Enough people have been to enough shows to know! Don’t spoil it for those of us who are real fans of the band!

More on Bono & the (next) Pope…

Even TIME magazine is getting in on the act. They have an article in the new issue discussing “The Men Who Might Be Pope.” One of the names given is Cardinal Rodriguez Maradiaga, Archbishop of Tegucigalpa, Honduras. His brief profile says “… is passionate and telegenic. He could ably succeed John Paul as a high-profile Pope. Already he has campaigned for Third World debt relief alongside U2’s Bono.”

And then they have his photo in a separate part of the page, with a shorter brief below it that says “The Honduran is a linguist, a pilot and a pianist, and has already hung out with Bono.”

This is really getting out of hand … isn’t it?

Dusting off the classics

I know there are many readers who aren’t able to catch the Vertigo Tour yet, and I hope you’re keeping up with the tour coverage at U2Tours.com with setlists, fan reviews and more.

One thing I wanted to make sure folks were aware of is the introduction of some of the classics in the U2 songbook. Bono has said in NME “There is a strong link between those songs and the new album. The first was an ode to innocence and the new one is innocence regained. The first album is becoming a bit of a cult classic for bands like The Killers who talk about it. We thought it was time.”

Last night in Los Angeles, they pulled out The Ocean - a song from Boy they haven’t performed since 1982. Unbelievable!

In my experience in San Diego, it seemed like the songs off of Boy were the ones that left many in the stands confused, and the die-hard fans with their jaws on the floor in disbelief. These are songs we never thought we’d hear performed again, and done so well!

There are rumors of more classics being introduced into the tour as it goes along - here’s to hoping we’ll hear Tomorrow, A Sort of Homecoming or The Unforgettable Fire somewhere down the line. Three cheers to U2 for changing the setlist night after night - what an exciting tour to be following!

Is this an April Fool’s Joke?

It’s April Fool’s Day, and this seems to unreal to be true…

In The Times this morning, it’s been reported that, “Mel Brooks’s son Eddie is said to be working on a tribute album to his father that involves Madonna, Sir Elton John and U2. The stars must already be fighting over who will sing Jews in Space.”

Mel Brooks is the man who gave us, amongst other things, ‘Blazing Saddles’, ‘Spaceballs’ and ‘Robin Hood: Men In Tights’.

Any guesses as to what Bono would sing?
