MTV and Live 8

I really tried to bite my tongue on a day like this, but the records need to show how bad the U.S. TV coverage is, and I need to vent. :-)

1) What’s with all the freakin’ commercials? Commercials are outnumbering songs by about 5-to-1 right now. I thought this was a concert?

2) On those rare occasions when a song is aired, could we PLEASE HAVE THE WHOLE SONG? I’m so desperate to hear a song in its entirety, any song, that I got angry when they cut out of Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On a Prayer.” Jaysus!

3) You know you’re in trouble when the most intelligent person holding a microphone is John Norris. The hosts are just brain-dead.

There’s always the 2-hour highlight show tonight on ABC, though I’m not sure how optimistic I should be about that…….

I totally agree. I started yelling at the TV. Would it kill them to finish a song? And they are definitly ranking how much of a song they play by how popular they think it will be. We get most of the Black Eyed Peas but only snipits of U2. Makes me mad.

AMEN! I’ve completely given up on tv, just have it on in the background with sound down in case they show anything interesting in between bands at the different shows. Ohhhh the irony of that guy with the Brit accent talking over the end of Bittersweet Symphony saying, “Now this is what it’s all about..the music.” Oh really? Then STOP FECKING BLABBING SO WE CAN LISTEN! *sigh*

I was totally *shocked* (happily mind you) that they just showed “Beautiful Day” in its entirety, to the point where the opening chords of Vertigo came on. Of course I wrongly got excited that perhaps we’d get 2 in a row, but oh well. Those doves were cool!

I agree too. And why are VH1 and MTV showing the same thing? Couldn’t one of them shown more of the music? “M”TV - hah! - they should be forced to change their name.

Oh, just got to see Madonna do 2 songs - not bad - at this point I’m glad for anything…

But Green Day playing “We Are the Champions” was pretty cool. one point for, 50 against.

ok, them showing 20 seconds of Keane and that’s it, negated previous point. I wish there was a way to record the streaming broadcast on AOL.

Yeah this coverage is utter bullshit. Why does Madonna get two full songs in their entirety and U2 (who’ve led the pack in this cause all the back to when Madonna was marketing her nymphomania) get only one song? Bah humbug. American TV sucks. They must think we have the attention span of a gnat.

ok, The Who. Live. I mean the fact we’re not getting Vertigo at *all* sucks. But we got the who, which I would have bet money we wouldn’t get at all, never mind live.

I know! to say what?! Ugh, at least they went back, but the moment was still ruined. I was surprised they showed as much as they did though.

I hope the DVD comes out, and soon,

    I know!

Still, I was amazed they let Floyd go as long as they did without cutting away or blabbing over it.

    Sigh.

One of the biggest music things to happen in a looooooong time, and I can’t even see the whole thing because of Empty Vee.

Wow…we got 2/3 of Won’t Get Fooled Again…and nothing else while those IDIOTS blabber on about how great it is!

Most of Pink Floyd…I knew they wouldn’t show it all…and of course they didn’t.

What a waste…I’m sure MTV and VH1 are donating all proceeds from the endless commercials…oh yeah, when pigs fly!

sorry to hear it for you guys, truly. :( by all accounts, AOL, VH1 & MTV are sucking bigtime here & elsewhere. Isn’t NBC TV showing anything? ( No NBC coverage in canada here, though we get NBC.)

MTV and VH1 have no business being on television anymore. They suck so bad. How can they cut off Madonna, and more importantly, how can they cut off Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb?????????? Do they have any idea how big a moment that was for music lovers?????

AOL was good - even caught most of U2 doing One, when they showed it in Philly. Saw Roxy Music (excellent), Stevie Wonder, The Who, some of Sting. Wish I had checked it out sooner (like 3 am here on the west coast). The DVD should be great - hope it doesn’t cost too much - if most of the money goes to “make poverty history”, I’ll come up with it.

I think Linkin Park got the most on-air songs. I should have expected this from MTV, but it was neither less disappointing nor easier on the ears.

Usually,I have great hatred of AOL but aolmusic.com was awesome today. I watched most of the morning feed and bits and pieces of the afternoon. Obvious highlights were U2 walking on stage like they never ever thuoght that they would be on stage and playing with Beatle and Coldplay playing backing band to Richard Ashcroft’s Bitter sweet Symphony.

They are rebroadcasting the lot of the cities. Oh, no need to be a member either.

Here’s the WORST part - - - not only did I spend all day hoping for a GLIMPSE of something U2-ish besides “BD” (ya know, ’cause Bono’s been the voice of this issue ALL ALONG, and you’d think they’d show “ONE” for crying out loud!!) - - the mtv. (or was it vh1?) website was selling white wristbands for $2.99 that say “Make Poverty History” and have 7/2/05 on them - - - but they are NOT “ONE” wristbands. The money does not support The One Campaign. There was an note that said $1.00 from the sale of each wristband would go to help (the name of a children’s organization, but I can’t remember the name, I was too incensed) - - so all of these people watching the show and seeing their favorite artists wearing white bands may not realize that the OFFICIAL white bands are from http://www.one.org. THAT IS SO WRONG!!!!!!! I didn’t see the wristbands for sale on those sites today, but I did see it listed on Saturday morning.

I wish someone would come out with a REAL music station in the U.S. I am tired of wishing I lived in EUROPE!!!!!! :-)

I was pretty pissed at them cutting off the Killers right as the Gospel singers were kicking in.
