I'm a big Stones fan and am also a big U2 fan. The difference you point out about the sound checks is pretty interesting and indicative of how different the fanbase is.

Difference for me is that while the Stones are one of the greatest R&R bands in history, they haven't put out anything that captivates me since Emotional Rescue & Tattoo You. Steel Wheels onwards suck. I'd wager that if you ask any longtime Stones fans who go to their concerts, they're looking to hear their old hits not the new cuts. Imho, they're a machine going thru the motions, are generally behind with the times, and aren't capturing many new fans.

U2 on the other hand, are current, relevant, still powerful, and captivating. They've got their finger on the pulse of the world, digital media, and continue to amaze with their concerts. The older material is great to hear in the current tour and their new album has fresh and passionate material. You just have to look on the forums and at the concerts to see most of the older ones have stuck by U2 thru the years, and new fans are being hooked daily.

Let's just hope that U2 will not have the outrageous prices that the Stones had for tickets. I'm sure that they will keep the prices similar to those at the Garden shows. Maybe bring that big stage from the European Leg to sit in front of the Green Monster with the heart reaching all the way to where 2nd base is. The place would be rocking.

I'm too far away to go in for soundcheck with gas prices the way they are, and won't be at the actual concert with ticket prices the way they are. All I have to say is: this HYPE! Stones references on the WEATHER FORECAST! If U2 end up at Fenway I want equal treatment. More than equal; this is supposed to be a U2 town, after all.... ;-)
