One - Shelter from the Storm

In the same way Aretha Franklin took Otis Redding’s “Respect” and make it her own, Mary J. Blige has taken “One” to a whole new level in her duet with U2 on the Shelter from the Storm Hurricane benefit this evening, braodcasted on various television networks. I am in tears at the moment at the way she elevated that song beyond this planet. Amazing. Absolutely brilliant. Let’s hope they release THAT on iTunes!

AOL.com has been kind enough to host the program online as a replay. Visit:

Great performance - Mary J. added alot. I thought it looked really cool with the empty arena. I was actually hoping they would turn up the lights and show the emptiness of that large space - you don’t usually see a band playing in an empty arena. It felt strangely appropriate.
