The Blige version of "One" sang on American Idol the other night was definitely forgettable.

I also got my hopes up for a brief moment that U2 would show up and start singing it, too, but I quickly realized that U2 is too big a band to come out during a variety show on Idol.

Thank you, Lisa - - my thoughts exactly!

I could not believe that a band that has turned down millions (thankfully!) by companies to use their songs (both Streets and Even Better Than the Real Thing) would now allow that song for commercial use.

I wonder if they lost some kind of control over it, since Mary is allowed to kind of prostitute it as hers, now.

"Sorry, bitter, party of one, (ahem!), your table is now available . . ."

I'd love to know if anyone has any details on this, too . . .

Speaking of "One" - Did anyone else see the ABC Network promo using "One" last night? I'm probably being idealistic, but there was something heartbreaking about the song that has stood for so many great causes being used to promote a network. Any one have scoop as to how this came about? Is there anything redeeming about it?
