Bono? Forgetful?

Bono reading lyricsRolling Stone has a list of “the most forgetful singers of all time.”

Bet you’ll never guess who made the list.

(That would be yer man with the lyrics to “Walk On” in his hand Sept. 20, 2006, in Chicago.)

(Thanks to Amy M. for the tip.)

more from Product RED

The gang over at coolhunting.com offer a sneak preview of the Gap’s Product RED holiday collection. The collection features t-shirts, hoodies, jackets, jeans, and various accessories with prices, reportedly, in the range of $10-$350. Gap Product RED launches their full line at flagship stores in the U.S., U.K., and online in October. Also going on sale is “Individuals: Portraits from the Gap Collection,” featuring photos of 265 celebrities who have posed for Gap ads over the years (see blog note 2 items down). The book will contain a limited edition music CD showcasing 12 songs heard in Gap ads. Proceeds from the sales of these items will be directed to Product RED, Bobby Shriver and Bono’s initiative to wipe out AIDS in Africa.

New book to promote RED initiative in the works

Just saw this online at vogue.co.uk:

VOGUE had a date with Gap last night at the National Portrait Gallery and it was just as glam as you might imagine. Putting everybody in the mood for the party circuit of the international collections - due to kick off in NYC this weekend - it brought the likes of Manolo Blahnik, Christian Louboutin, Erin O’Connor, Roland Mouret, Zandra Rhodes, Max Wigram and Phoebe Philo, Nicky Haslam and Daphne Guinness together to see a preview of Gap’s new Individuals exhibition, featuring all the stars of its past ad campaigns. Portraits of those stars were plastered all over the gallery - including beneath the glass table top of the banquet table at which 90 of fashion’s most famous sat down to dinner later on - and they will shortly be put into a book that will be sold to raise money for Bono’s huge RED Aids awareness initiative. As industry parties go, this was one of the best - who says fashion people don’t eat? Leek, tomato pepper tart followed by wild halibut with langoustine and asparagus, then passion fruit sorbet and chocolate mousse meant we all have plenty of energy for the action ahead. She mooooves with it!

Edge CowBeth has pointed me toward a news report on French TV today about a farmer in France who’s a U2 fan … stay with me on this … and this farmer plays pop music, including U2, while his cows are being milked because he says it helps the cows produce more milk.

There’s more: The farmer guy has named a couple of his cows after U2, and in the TV news report we hear him calling out to one of them as “Edge.” Beth, who speaks more fluent French than me, also says the farmer shares his thoughts “on the potential great future of the Bono cow.” The photo above is Edge Cow, I think.

I’m not making this up, and neither is Beth. Wanna see it for yourself?

1) Go here: http://videos.tf1.fr/video/

2) Along the top navigation menu items, click the link that says “Infos” and then select the first item on the dropdown list, which should say “JT 13/20H en video”.

3) When you click that, a new window will popup with the video player. On the right side will be some navigation, including a dropdown menu with the date. You’re looking for “5 sep 2006″, and then be sure to click the circle that’s marked “13h”, too. Click the little GO button and the window will refresh.

4) On the list of available videos, scroll way down until you see a thumbnail image of some cows. The headline will say “les vaches aiment la musique” — which translates to “Cows love music” — bingo!

5) Sit and enjoy, and thank Beth and @U2 for helping to brighten a few moments of your otherwise boring day. :-)

Oooohhhhh!

U2.com home page

I should go away on vacation more often!

Looks like the folks at U2.com are gearing up for the Fall, starting with a slight refresh of U2.com. The new log-in screen is a great promo for U2 by U2, as well as gives you a quick update as to if something new has been posted to the site. (This is helpful if you’re just checking in briefly and you’re paying 50-cents/minute or more for internet connection - ah, internet on cruise ships!) The images also rotate between band members, but I wish mine always popped up with Larry - thank goodness for the refresh button.

When I tried logging in from this screen, it still took me to another log-in screen, so I guess they’re still working out the glitches - but it’s nice to see a bit of a refresh to the site.
