Actually it’s a good thing obviously that the lyrics for October were stolen and then returned in 2004— Bono and the band have always said one “Crap” album and they are finished…. ha, ha, ha…. ; -)
from what i can recall, bono mentioned that, 2004, after getting his old brown suitcase back, that inside were ‘a few pictures, some letters,’ and not much else. he didn’t say that it was crap, but he certainly didn’t say there was, indeed, the lost lyrics to a groundbreaking u2 album.
in my opinion, i think a very young and hubris bono and the boys bluntly boffed it big time with october, and should consider themselves extremely lucky island records let them make another album after it.
ian, that is criz-azy. gloria. rejoice. october. tomorrow. if u2 have an album left in them with 4 songs as genuine and powerful as those… i will be shocked and awed.
ope! (backpedaling here) i suppose we all can agree that october was not a strong seller when it was released, and from a business standpoint, perhaps not as strong an album as it could / should have been.
from that stand point, u2, coming off a very strong start with boy — an album that had nearly five years to mature — suddenly found themselves in an awkward situation. they were very much boys back then, awed by this whole God thing, not sure of this rock and roll stuff, suddenly with a deadline fast looming for a follow up album.
in my opinion, the deadline came swiftly, and the awkward residue left from the experiment is called October. perhaps that angst is the merits to the album to some, but for me — and perhaps u2 — lingers as an awkward poloroid from the band’s adolescent period. to me October is the snapshot of a self conscious teenager trying to hide their zits.

Love it! Especially love the “discovers they were crap any way” bit.

Have the original lyrics to October been ‘released?’
(Or is Bono just calling them ‘crap?’ ha ha!)
If I can read them somewhere, will someone please point me in the right direction to find them?
Thanks!!!
