Just a point of accuracy, the re-election campaign and the Zoo-Tv tour were both in 1992. :)

back in 1991 geoge bush was running for re-election. also in 1991, as you may well know, part of bono's shtick during the zoo tv tour was attempting to call president bush from the concerts, usually resulting in dead-pan hang ups from the many white house's official operators.

during a campaign speech, president bush mentioned this, saying something like, 'as you may well know, the rock crop, er, rock group u2 has been attempting to call me during their concerts,' and he continued to resolve that, 'i will take foreign policy advice from (insert important 1991 political adviser here) and bill clinton can take foreign policy advice from boy george.'

at the time i heard the quote i thought it was funny how out of touch president bush was comparing u2 to boy george, and -- being the first election i could vote in -- resolved immediately to vote for bill clinton.

so, yes, in a manner of speaking -- and as best as i can recollect -- president bush did say 'rock crop, er, rock group u2.' but i did take artistic liberty to change the context of the qoute, because, ironically, and as we all know, bono has done remarkable things with bush's son, george w., in our recent times.
