There’s another item of note today…
We’ve confirmed from one of U2’s representatives that there are no plans to release a soundtrack when U23D comes out. Pity really - the music’s there and already fully produced for the film…wouldn’t take too much to release a live CD commercially. Excluding the fanclub/U2.com exclusive releases, there hasn’t been a commercial recording of nothing but live material released by U2 since Live at Red Rocks! Sure, Rattle and Hum included some live material, as well as scattered b-sides. Looking back, even Red Rocks wasn’t a complete show. So, in reality - out of U2’s entire discography, they’re missing a full commercially available live concert CD. (And, I’m not counting the live shows they made available to FM radio stations during LoveTown and the Outside Broadcast shows as you can’t buy them). Anyway - what an opportunity missed as the music is already produced and ready for pressing. I wonder how many people are going to try to bring in audio recording equipment to the movie theater to get the audio from the film?
At least they’re returning to Eze in November for new recording sessions
Anyone getting excited at the new material yet?

You just said that Rattle & Hum was made up of scattered b-sides. Duck!

Anyone camping out in Eze to ‘run into’ the guys? Or even camp out in the hopes that Bono plays music too loud from his house again?

I can’t bring myself to get excited yet - it’s too too far away. If I got excited now, I’d just be frustrated by fall ‘08 (or whenever).

Well, there is the option of recording the DVD audio tracks as they play on your computer, but then of course you’d need 1) an as-yet non-existent U23D disc, some recording software, and a DVD player & accompanying software. You’d also need enough RAM (or whatever it is) to ensure that these programs could run fully-functionally simultaneously. Happily, I do have all these things, but I understand that it’s not really that convenient for most people.
I’m still surprised we haven’t seen some sort of compilation of all the live b-sides the band’s released over the course of their history. Sure, many are in the iTunes bonanza, but the management of U2’s live recordings has been relatively poor IMO compared with other bands. But whatever- it’s their stuff, they choose what to release.
Oh and hello to all the @U2ers! Hope you all are well.

When they release it on DVD. You put the DVD in the computer and use an audio ripping program. It takes the audio tracks from the DVD. I have all their commercially released DVDs in my computer as audio and listen to them all the time.
Slane, Zoo TV, Elevation Live From Boston, Vertigo From Chicago and Milan. Great stuff.

I’m really disappointed that they are going back to the Morocco. I thought they would be with Rick Rubin and saying they are finalizing the album. Unless they will and they would go to Morocco for the Broadway show. And about the full live album, I think U2 3D would be best. The Vertigo Tour was the best of populatiry.

I think that when you mentioned “fanclub/U2.com exclusive releases” you hit the nail right on the head!
Since they will have to give us a free gift to coax us into paying $40 a year again in a few months, I’m sure that the audio of U23D will be the easiest thing for them to send us!
(although if the release date is pushed back to early 2008 that might be problematic as I am sure they don’t want to give us CDs before the movie is out!)

Someone mentioned only giving a gift to those who have resigned for their U2.com membership for first time…but what about those of us who have been here for the long haul from the start…but I do agree that a LIVE s/track of the U2-3D would be the easiest way to keep fans happy…and not forgetting that won’t very long after the 20th ann edition of the Joshua Tree too (Nov 07)…plus there’s been the Popmart DVD release this year too…so really it’s not like they aren’t already providing for us all anyway!!!! Bring on the new material
Cheers U2…walk on
