Even more Walrus……for good!
I’m not sure if Empire magazine has much circulation outside of the UK, but seeing as it’s the most widely read film magazine in Britain, the fact that it has given Across the Universe a good rating must surely mean something. The full review, which mentions Bono’s appearance, can be found here:

I’m very enthusiastic about this film; afterall, how much better can you get than a combination of Bono and Beatles songs?

Don’t forget that Julie Taymor directed it, which pretty much guarantees an awesome movie. I mean, c’mon, have you seen Titus? Wow. I’m really excited because this movie will mix her creativity with two other creative icons.

I’ve never heard of ‘Titus.’ What’s it about?

Julie Taymor also directed Frida, which was a gorgeous movie. But she has very few movies under her belt and her real expertise is musical theater.
Movie musicals are very, very hard to direct with authenticity and from the clips I’ve seen, Across the Universe looks headed for video very quickly. I hope I’m wrong but it could be the Xanadu of our time. (Meaning in 20 years it will come back as a hit Broadway musical, which maybe this should have been all along.)

All I know is Bono’s costume designer should totally win an Oscar. That moustache he is rocking is the best thing. EVER.

Titus is the Shakespeare play Titus Andronicus - Taymor’s version has Anthony Hopkins in the title role. It’s probably Shakespeare’s most twisted play. She also designed Lion King for Broadway. She’s amazing.
