That is a legitimate concern.

There are lots of people that do wear Nike SBs. Call it all you want, but outside of the limited collections, Nike SBs are solid shoes that are actually good for skating.

A skater looking for the best product doesn't care what manufacturer is producing the shoe. If the shoe is good, that's the primary concern, and that should be pretty much it. DVS and DC could have been in the industry longer, had a history and "soul", but if Nike makes better shoes, then a skater should buy Nike. So far, Nike SB's, particularly the zoom tres, are some of the best shoes I've ever worn, comfort, looks, and functionality combined.

Take this for what it's worth, but this history and soul stuff is just garbage. Ford makes worse cars than Honda does. Ford's been around longer, has a history as an American company, but their cars are worse. No amount of tradition is going to convince me to purchase a worse product over another, and why should it? I don't see how that claim should hold any weight in making a product choice. Some skaters think irrationally I suppose.

I take your point Scott, but the real issue, in my mind, was with the shoe being based on Sunday Bloody Sunday, which is sort of a sacred thing because of the event(s) it represents.

And to your other point, while I know Nike SBs, particularly limited editions are sneaker head buzz items, many of the actual skaters I know wouldn't be caught dead wearing Nikes.

I think this is hilarious. A lot of you are ragging on this shoe without knowledge of any target markets, company history, or even what the brand is.

Nike SB is a brand of shoes created by Nike. They have tons of shoes, sell out in skate shops world wide, and aren't going to stop. Some rare shoes come out in different collections. One of those was the fallen heroes collection, which included shoes like Pee Wee Hermans, MC Hammers, and Vanilla ices. The shoes were not marketed to fans of each artist, but to sneaker enthusiasts, aka, sneaker heads. Many sneaker heads like the majority of these collection based shoes.

Obviously none of you know much about urban fashion or Nike SB, simply because it does not appeal to you. The Nike SB Dunk is a skate shoe with similar styles to the Nike Dunk, a basketball shoe that was frequently used for skateboarding before Nike SB was created. SB is an abbreviation for skate boarding. Nike SB is therefore for skaters, urban sneaker heads and hip hop culture. These shoes are limited in quantity, so expanding their target market is not a priority. U2 fans typically do not fit this demographic. U2 fans are not the target market, never were, and never will be. If you hate the shoe, great, the point was to add a shoe to a collection while still appealing to their original target market. It's not disrespectful, it's not rude, it's not ugly, you're just being closed minded because it doesn't appeal to you and you think it should.

So how do we know if the market likes it? Sneaker heads are gobbling this one up. On ebay, it's listed for around 250 a pair. Maybe more. Call it all you want, but the target market loves this shoe.

Guys - I am the PR manager for Nike and someone sent me the link to this thread.

I promise you it isn't true - the shoe exists but it is not called the 'Bloody Sunday' shoe, or any name relating to either U2 or the events of Bloody Sunday.

Don't know where this started, but it's not correct.

They're pretty ugly alright. Bad taste can be forgiven if the product turns out extremely well but, eh, it didn't.
