Scattered Thoughts: Suit & Tie Guy Strikes Again

Last night in NYC, at a $100,000 (!) per table event, the likes of David Bowie, Iman, Jay-Z, Diddy, Gwen Stefani, Sheryl Crow, Mike Mills, etc. etc. came out to honor Bono for his humanitarian work. The occasion was a fundraiser for the Keep A Child Alive charity.

In honoring him, Alicia Keys said of Bono, “He is an inspiration and single-handedly made it cool to have something to speak about.” Bono, for his part, showed up in a ridiculous/awesome burgundy colored suit, and said he was “proud” but would rather be giving an award than receiving one.

You can see several more photos of Bono and other celebs at the event at Confessions of a Paparazzi Etc.

Alicia Keys, Gwen Stefani and Sheryl Crow were supposedly on the list to perform at the event. Does anyone know what songs were played and if anyone else got on stage to perform?

UPDATE: Rolling Stone reports that the evening included Gwen Stefani and Alicia Keys performing Sunday Bloody Sunday, Alicia and opera singer Kathleen Battle performing Miss Sarajevo and Bono joining Alicia to sing Don’t Give Up with the Agape Orphanage’s children’s choir.

Bill O’Reilly: Are you going to change? Are you going to let success go to your head?
    Bono: no -
Bill O’Reilly: So you’re going to stay the same humble -
Bono: I’m going to be the same dirty son of a bitch I always was.

Greetings from Sedona, Arizona. I am a photographer working for National Geographic (who has traveled in approximately 120 countries). I just had a very beautiful book called SACRED EARTH published by Barnes & Noble in the United States and the UK, and I would like to give a copy of this book to Bono as a present. The book, which features lovely photographs of sacred sites and pilgrimage places in more than 80 countries is the most significant color photography book published in the world this year. If you would like to see that I am a legitimate person with a legitimate request, please take just a moment to look at my web site Places of Peace and Power at http://www.sacredsites.com

I am not trying to get Bono’s personal mailing address and would certainly be satisfied with the postal mailing address of someone who could present the book to him. If you would like to speak to me personally, my telephone number is 928-282-0688.

Given Bono’s interest in matters of world peace and the environment I feel that he would be most pleased to receive this book as a gift.

    Sincerely,

    Martin Gray
