Two U2 Albums Recognized in EW List

Entertainment Weekly has named their top 100 “New Classics” albums and U2 scored well with The Joshua Tree at #63 and Achtung Baby at #3. Personally, I would’ve flipped those two rankings (and added War in there somewhere), but it’s great to see they placed twice nonetheless.

What Will Make Red Rocks Deluxe?

A few days ago, Anthony DeCurtis told me he was writing the liner notes for the upcoming DVD release of U2’s historic 1983 concert, Live at Red Rocks: Under a Blood Red Sky.

We’ve sort of known there was a DVD of the concert in the works, and Amazon has been listing a standard version and a deluxe version, saying the release date is September 2 for the standard and August 19 for the deluxe.

Now here is something interesting: There’s been a lot of talk of a re-mastering of the Under A Blood Red Sky live album, and for a while it seemed to be an on-again, off-again affair.  Finally, it looked to be off, but when DeCurtis wrote me he said, “I’m writing liner notes that will be used for Under a Blood Red Sky and the Red Rocks DVD.”

Wouldn’t it be a nice bonus if what makes the deluxe version of the Red Rocks DVD “deluxe” is the inclusion of a re-mastered UABRS CD?

There’s still no mention over at U2.com of either the Red Rocks DVD or a re-mastered UABRS CD.  Has anyone seen any more about either of these projects?  Any news out there?

While we are waiting to watch the misty mullet in all its digitally transferred glory, we can catch some memories of being there by four folks @U2’s Rashas Weber tracked down for our June 5 retrospective.

Reading Between the Lines: Bono and Guggi Hit the Town

Looking at this Showbiz Ireland blog post, it appears that folks are not only watching who Bono hangs out with, what he’s wearing and what he’s drinking–they’re also apparently sure he’s sending calculated subliminal messages based on what poster he’s posing in front of during photo ops.

It could me nothing or it could be something: you be the judge!

Listen to Anton Corbijn on NPR

The celebrated photographer, responsible for the iconic shots on U2’s The Joshua Tree, is out and about again promoting his film Control about punk star Ian Curtis.

He recently sat down with Fresh Air’s Terry Gross for a chat, which is available here:

The interview is approximately 18 minutes long and he doesn’t limit the conversation to the film (thx “lorentoy”).
