Two U2 Albums Recognized in EW List
Entertainment Weekly has named their top 100 “New Classics” albums and U2 scored well with The Joshua Tree at #63 and Achtung Baby at #3. Personally, I would’ve flipped those two rankings (and added War in there somewhere), but it’s great to see they placed twice nonetheless.

It would be interesting to know what they judged by.
Top 3 that’s pretty good!

Top 3, not bad! Joshua Tree ftw
I came across this while searching for some U2 pictures, neat site. Small collection of U2 pictures, but a good selection of some other artists (most of whom are on that last!!)

AB is in my Top 3, too! TJT should have been a bit higher, IMHO. And I’m not so sure about “Purple Rain” at #1!

I think Achtung Baby was ground breaking. I like The Joshua Tree a little more, but not enough to argue with the order. I am a huge Prince fan as well, so I like Purple Rain at no 1. With that said, I think Sign of the Times is a better album than Purple Rain.

As great The Joshua Tree is, Achtung Baby just has a sustained level of musical and lyrical power that puts it at the top of any list.
But all I need to know about this list is this.
21. The Emancipation of Mimi Mariah Carey (2005)
35. Jagged Little Pill Alanis Morissette (1995)
63. The Joshua Tree U2 (1987)
Really?!

agree with tg completely…what the !! ….thats the problem with these lists and most reviews. As Bian Eno said “Every review should have, below the name of the critic, their 10 current favourite works in the medium. That way you have some chance of seeing their prejudices.”

And no love for “The Unforgettable Fire”? Ground breaking record for U2 and it was completely different than the 3 records before it. Edge really became “The Edge” on this record and Bono’s voice was spectacular. Certainly blows away Emancipation of Mimi!!! In fact, every disc U2 put out is better than 75% of the stuff they have on their list!
Actung Baby #3? Well deserved. Joshua Tree also spectacular. Best tracks on both though are not what mainstream listeners think of. “Acrobat” and “Red Hill Mining Town” - bet the people who judged these records were more thinking “Mysterious Ways” and “With or Without You”….. Too bad!
