360 Tour Merchandise Collectibility

The collector in me has an itch that needs scratching. My good friend in Glasgow sent me a tour T-shirt that is now going to be a bit of a collectible. The dates on the back include the European first leg, as well as the dates for Chicago, Toronto, Foxborough, and East Ruthersford. The shirt was printed up before the date change for the New Jersey shows, so to me, I’d think this shirt would be a bit more of a collectible than your average shirt.

My husband has a tour shirt from the Zooropa tour where the year on it said 1933 instead of 1993 for one of the tour dates. We are hanging onto that one as it was a show he was at.

What I’m not sure of is what should I be spending my money on at the merchandise table this time around? The PopMart tour provided some good investment pieces in the snowglobe and rubik’s cube. As I’ve found, tour programs don’t really increase in value over time.

I’m asking our loyal @U2 readers to help me decide what I should buy when I see them in a couple weeks’ time. What do you feel will gain in value 10 years from now?

See, people collect things for different reasons. I collect all kinds of things, some U2 related, most not.

I collect them because I like the “hunt” the finding things. I collect things because they remind me of specific moments of my life.

I plan on buying things at the show; a shirt or two to wear, others to remind me of wandering over to the Tshirt stand while killing time in the GA line.

Buying things as an investment is one thing, but on a world tour that is going to reach hundreds of thousands of people and probably sell tens of thousands of souvenirs, buying things because they will gain monetary value down the road isn’t why I do it. Not knocking someone who does it as an investment but its not why I do it.

I bought a U2 coffee mug at the Dublin shows. The NOLH Tote bag is also really neat. The 360 key ring is also good value, it’s solid and substantial. Not sure if they will increase in value but these items are different to the usual T shirts and caps.

I also don’t buy 4 investment but value what will remind of that show over time. I also agree the condoms were an awesome item. Buy a shirt if you collect shirts and wear it but they start to pile up and take over programs if you want pictures to remember it that way. I love the keychains and everyone can use a cap especially for the bad hair days and what a better way than in style. Also I consider the website online and you can buy your shirt or hat from this tour now.
