Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has some strong praise for Bono in Blair’s just-released memoir, A Journey. He says Bono “could have been a president or prime minister standing on his head.” Here’s a snapshot of the full paragraph sent in by @U2 reader Neil W.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan ruled today that a government policy that can lead to fining broadcasters for airing a single curse word on live television is “unconstitutionally vague” and potentially a violation of the 1st Amendment.

This all came to light back in 2003 when Bono exclaimed during a live awards show that U2 winning a Golden Globe was “really f-ing brilliant.”

Of course, Janet Jackson’s exposed breast during the Super Bowl halftime show in 2006 didn’t help matters. Following that incident, Congress voted to increase the maximum fine for each violation to $325,000.

Today’s ruling will help prevent crippling fines for slips that censors aren’t quick enough to catch, and provide a little breathing room for…em…wardrobe malfunctions.

Rumor: Bono to write for Pixar?

Mike from The Pixar Blog shared yesterday that he thinks Bono and maybe The Edge could be creating songs for an upcoming Pixar project.

He cites “new information” as his catalyst for writing the post, and refuses to share his resources, but calls the possibility “reasonably solid.”

While waiting in line at my local grocery store, I was shocked to see that The National Enquirer finally attempted to “out” Bono with their cover story expose on “Who’s Gay and Who’s Not.” That’s him kissing Adam in the lower left corner of the cover.

It’s the first time I recall seeing him as a cover boy for this publication. I’m sure we can all rest assured knowing that their cracker-jack reporting got this story right.

Bono on Naomi Campbell (via Oprah)

During an interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired last week, Naomi Campbell was surprised to hear Oprah give Bono’s view of why men become putty when they are around Naomi. Here’s what Oprah said Bono told her:
“It’s because you have the body that men crave. You have the perfect proportioned body. And that there is something about you that makes men feel like they can protect you. They want to protect you, and they also want to be able to wake up with you after they had protected you.”

During Winfrey’s interview, Adam was never personally mentioned, although there was a photo displayed in a brief montage of the two of them circa 1993. If you weren’t aware of Adam’s look back then, you would have questioned who that mysterious blond man was. Instead they focused more on Robert DeNiro and her current boyfriend.

Following up on our home page news bit from last week about U2 being included in several ESPN/FIFA World Cup TV commercials, the ESPN YouTube channel has just added another one of those spots.

This one is called “United,” and I’d say yer man has a bright career ahead of him in TV voiceover work if the whole rock-n-roll thing doesn’t work out.

(Seriously, I’m not a soccer nut … but I almost wouldn’t mind if he recited that as “Magnificent” starts during the upcoming concerts.)

Bono and Cruz on French Vogue Cover

Bono shows up on another fashion magazine cover next month. It’s the May 2010 issue of French Vogue, and this time he’s on the cover with actress Penelope Cruz. The magazine turned over guest editing duties to Cruz for May, and she produced three different covers — all promoting Product (RED).

The magazine apparently credits two photographers for this cover, which some of the fashion blogs say is an indication that the cover is Photoshopped. (Yes, in the name of investigative reporting, I actually spent time reading fashion blogs tonight. All for you, folks. All for you.)
