There was a brief, off-beat mention of Bono’s extra-curricular antics in the Review section of today’s Observer newspaper, entitled ‘Pop Duets to Make You Cringe: Celebs and Politicos Don’t Mix. Or If They Do, They Shouldn’t.’ In its entirety, it read:
”Bono and George Bush
After a White House meeting in 2003 to discuss the Aids crisis, Bono declared: ‘The President’s emphasis upon anti-retroviral treatment represents a true paradigm shift.’ We never got to hear Dubya’s explanation of a paradigm shift, ‘true’ or not. “
Amusing, but no points for originality I’d say…

In this MSN Technology blog, the idea and effectiveness of Product (Red) is explored.
Some feel the only way to get money to Africa is by selling products on its behalf; others feel that’s just a greedy way for Americans (and Europeans, in this case) to take a cut of what could be a total donation.
My opinion is that if it brings awareness about the continent to those who may otherwise know nothing about it, or inspires one to learn more, or is the only way said persons-with-the-pocketbooks will give to that specific emergency, then it’s only a positive.
What do you think?

No spoiler here, I promise—but I’ll have to admit I smiled pretty widely when only a few minutes into the superhero film Hancock, there was a Bono reference.
You’ll have to see the movie to catch the joke, but I can give you a hint: Jason Bateman’s character “Ray” delivers it.
In that brilliant Arrested Development sort of way.

They may want their BonoTV in Germany, but Bono isn’t gonna let them have it. Yer man has put the kibosh on the launch of “BonoTV,” a German TV channel for viewers over 50 years old.
RapidTVNews quotes the German newspaper, Express, which reported that Bono wasn’t agreeable to the channel’s name because “he is concerned about the protection of his own pseudonym.” The channel will still launch later this year, but they’ll have to use a lesser name … like maybe ChrisMartinTV or LiamGallagherTV, perhaps?

Is Bono so connected that he’s the go-to guy when someone famous dies? Is he likely to show up at the funerals of famous people the world over … like this photo of him and Ali at Luciano Pavarotti’s funeral?
Over on the Boundless Line blog, Steve Watters says Bono is the Forrest Gump of Eulogies, and lays out a list of old news stories where Bono was one of the main quotees when Big Names pass on.
When you think about it … he’s got a point.

Looking at this Showbiz Ireland blog post, it appears that folks are not only watching who Bono hangs out with, what he’s wearing and what he’s drinking–they’re also apparently sure he’s sending calculated subliminal messages based on what poster he’s posing in front of during photo ops.
It could me nothing or it could be something: you be the judge!
