VIDEO: Bono & Edge’s Elevator Music on Letterman

We wrote on the main site about Bono and The Edge appearing on The Late Show with David Letterman this past Monday, but last night’s show (Thursday) had a sort of encore performance! Well, kind of.

It seems that while B&E were at the Sullivan Theatre, they taped a funny little skit that aired on Thursday night’s show. Enjoy!

U2 and Harry Potter

Our earlier blog post showed band members in movie roles in U2 themed movie posters. Now the roles are reversed. Nextmovie.com took 9 classic album covers and put the actors from Harry Potter in character on them. Two classic U2 albums made this list.

I was going to post the images , but I thought it would be fun for you to think about something first. Which U2 album covers would you choose and how would you incorporate the Harry Potter theme on it? Then you can check out the ones that made it here. I think they are all quite good. I do have a favorite. I think Peter Rowen would agree with me on this one!

Empire magazine asked readers to submit their inspired U2-themed movie posters, and I must say, there are some people who have some mad photoshop skills. After viewing Larry’s “Man On A Train” movie still, I have to say that some of these movie posters could be mistaken for the real deal! U2 College … in Nepal?

I know many folks who would love to get a college degree in U2, but we weren’t expecting to have to pack our bags for Nepal to do it.

These job postings came across my desk the other day. It was posted back in February in Kantipur, Nepal’s daily newspaper. Sorry, students, these are for faculty and staff positions. And sorry to all non-Nepalese U2 fans … they are only hiring qualified natives (and you have to be “looking dynamic”!).

Still, it’s funny to read and it’s nice to know there is a college out there called U2 College. They even have the font right. Also, it’s the kind of thing Google sends you when you ask for “academic U2″ alerts.

This was an advert for the “Even Better Than The Real Thing” single from one of the music magazines back in 1992. As serious as U2 can be, this still makes me giggle.

William Shatner to Cover U2 on New Album (SRSLY)

From the you-can’t-make-this-up department:

William Shatner is going to cover U2′s “In A Little While” on his next album.

Yes, that William Shatner … star of Priceline commercials, Star Trek, TJ Hooker and many more roles. He even announced it on his official website.

The album is called Searching for Major Tom and a lot of the songs he’s singing have space-related theme — “Space Oddity,” “Rocket Man” and more. You’ll look at the track list and think he was inspired by seeing a U2 360 show at some point, actually.

There’s no exact release date — the announcement just says later in 2011.

Ladies and gentlemen, at this evening’s performance the role of Spider-Man will be played by Michael B. – Broadway’s newest sensation. Enjoy the show!

All joking aside, this was performed at the annual charity event for the Inner Circle comedy show on March 27th. It spoofs New York’s journalists and politicians.

The Window That Stopped Me in My Tracks

As I was strolling around downtown San Francisco last week on a break from the conference I attended, I had to do a double-take as I walked past the store window pictured here.

To me, a War-era U2 logo was staring back as I glanced past my own reflection, but really it was just the front of the U2 Design store.

Who knew such a duplicity existed?

I began wondering: what other U2s are out there?

I knew of the famous spy plane, but not of the shelves, wheels, or the diving watches. The more I searched, the more I found.

It seems that nearly every aspect of our lives could have a connection to that letter and number, and I’m delighted by that.

Saturday Night Live was at it again spoofing Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark. The 2/12/11 episode featured a commercial for an attorney who specializes in injuries caused by the musical. Bono, a.k.a. Andy Samberg, even gets a piece of the action. View it here.
