RS Readers like/don’t like U2’s ‘Helter Skelter’

U2’s cover of “Helter Skelter” is named Best Beatles Cover by Rolling Stone readers.

As expected, commenters at RS revolt:

That U2 cover is atrocious (and I like U2).

and

I like U2 circa “Rattle and Hum,” but their version of “Helter Skelter” castrates the original.

and

U2’s version of Helter Skelter is horrible. I have no idea what the hell you guys are smoking

Just another day on the Interweb…..

LiveNation U2 Opinion Survey

Several alert @U2 readers have let us know that LiveNation is currently sending out a survey asking them their thoughts about U2, specifically about a future concert and how much someone would be willing to shell out for tickets and merchandise. The U2 Survey Sweepstakes Grand Prize winner will receive one pair of concert tickets to any LiveNation venue in 2007 or 2008.

LiveNation’s email states:

Take our U2 survey for a chance to win tickets to a future Live Nation concert!

We want to hear your thoughts and experiences about U2. Your feedback helps us to create unforgettable live music experiences for you, the fan.

Please click on the link below and answer the brief questions to be automatically entered into the drawing!

What’s interesting is that the rules of the survey states “Entrants agree that the Administrator may disclose to third parties all personal information obtained from Entrants and use such information for marketing and other purposes. ”

Only those LiveNation emailed will be allowed to take the survey. For the full rules of the sweepstakes, check them out here.

Is this a hint that the band’s testing the waters for a potential 2008 tour? I guess we’ll need to wait and see.

Larry would be proud!

Finally - a song countdown that does not include *any* U2 songs!

AOL put together (with some help, I might add) the 111 Wussiest songs of all time. Why 111? Well, they may think of that number as being a tad wussy themselves. Thankfully, U2 do not make this list - an achievement that I’m sure Larry would be proud of. I’ll save the suspense…number 1 wussiest song according to those tabulating: REM’s “Shiny Happy People.” Check out the full list here.

U218.com Quiz

For those of you looking at attaining a perfect score on the U218.com quiz, be forewarned - two questions posed currently have the incorrect answer allocated to them. Questions 5 and 29 are the culprits in question.

Question 5 asks what year was a “preacher stealing hearts from a traveling show?” - a line from the song Desire…and any good U2 fan knows that Bono didn’t write Desire prior to U2 receiving their first record contract.

Question 29 asks what city was the Where the Streets Have No Name video shot, and the quiz creators have confused the correct city with the one where Bono spray painted “Rock and Roll Stops the Traffic” later in the year.

Just a tip for those fans who felt a little confused by taking the quiz and realizing that the score was off a little.

U2’s “Elevation”
