U2 Songs in ‘Love Hate Love’ Documentary

I visited the Cleveland area in late June, and you may have seen the Flickr photoset of my Rock Hall/U2 pics. Some pretty cool stuff.

But just about an hour south of Cleveland is Canton, Ohio — home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. And since I love football almost as much as U2, I had to drive down and check out the HOF. It’s a great place. If you’re a football fan, you really have to make the trip to Canton. And if you’re also a U2 fan, you’ll enjoy seeing this on the wall in the Super Bowl Gallery area:

This is from a glass display highlighting some of the Super Bowl halftime shows, and as you can see, U2’s performance in 2002 is featured front and center. Pretty cool.

U2 is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame

“Users are given a live feed of the band’s progress throughout the tour: The first download will feature a video that U2 filmed for users, in which they apologize to fans for missing a leg of their tour,” Variety states.

Um, really? That’s the *same* video that is found on U2.com.

So, why the hype around the BD-Live content when it would appear you can get the same from the band’s own website? It was my hope that the BD-Live content would add something that you couldn’t find anywhere else. It disappoints me that so far this is not the case.

The company who installed the BD-Live content is quick to mention, “It’s important that the world knows the tech is out there,” says Pavement founder Andy Evans. That’s all fine and well if the content is fresh, but when it’s nothing more than a rehash of content already available, then it’s nothing worth tooting a horn about.

All of that was captured on the video below, but pay close attention to the couple that begins talking at about the 1:00 mark. You’ll hear them say that they traveled from Saskatoon to Edmonton (about 330 miles by car) and didn’t know that the concert had been postponed!

Isn’t that the saddest thing!!?? How do you not know the tour was postponed?? Poor folks.

Well, we don’t know who they are, and they apparently don’t know what @U2 is. But if anyone knows them, tell the guy and girl to come check out @U2 and get in touch with us and we’ll send them out a little something from our @U2 prize box.

What Happens When You Don’t Read @U2 Regularly

In most years, the Idol winner’s first single is a new song written specifically for the occasion. But Lee’s first single will be a cover of U2’s “Beautiful Day.” Like I said, I like Lee … but this song just isn’t right for him. And sadly, as you listen to the single below, it sounds at the beginning like they gave him a karaoke track to sing over. Sheesh. Poor guy.

See, that’s just not right. “Hallelujah” was much more up his alley. Oh, well.

Postscript, May 29: In an interview with MTV, DeWyze explains why his first single is a U2 cover:

Q: This season, you also have a cover song as your first single. How did you feel about that, and how did you choose that particular song?

A: I like that song a lot. It’s a really good song. Is it something that’s necessarily in my genre? No. But again, there were songs on the table, and that was the one I thought would represent the moment the best, because this year they didn’t have an original song written for this specifically. Whatever the reasons for that are — there’s reasons. [Laughs.] I don’t know all the ups and downs of the behind-the-scenes stuff. It’s just been a big game of “play by the rules.” If it was up to me, there were certain things I would have done differently.

In other words, it sounds like the folks at Idol didn’t give him too many choices.

We Are The Fallen Does “With Or Without You”

Following on from the recent Colm Henry photographic exhibition in London, Irish concert promoter MCD have put up 43 photos on their Facebook page, all photographed by Colm Henry. All of these are from 6 different Slane concerts spanning 1981 to 1987.

Included in these, are some shots of U2 performing at the first Slane concert in 1981, and one of Bono singing with Bob Dylan at Slane in 1984 when he famously forgot the words to Blowin’ In The Wind.

Some of these shots have not been seen before.

The selection also includes shots of Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Queen and David Bowie.

These include shots taken on and around the time of the shooting of the video for All I Want Is You.
