A few years ago, I wrote a Like a Song essay for @U2 about “Bullet the Blue Sky” and the art my friend Mike created around it. It didn’t matter whether it was a sketch on a napkin, a more detailed drawing inside my notebook or a watercolor on thick cardstock, I kept them all.
That was back in the ’80s, when we were angst-filled teenagers. We’re still friends to this day, and on Saturday, Mike surprised me with a 20×24 painting for my 40th birthday.
I am so honored that he created this just for me. (Although he’s always known that I’m his biggest fan.) I can’t think of a better way to celebrate more than 25 years of friendship and a shared love of music and art.
