Geldof and Bush in Africa

@U2 readers who share Bono’s concern for Africa may be interested in this article by Bono’s friend and fellow activist Bob Geldof — a diary of his travels with President Bush in Africa, and Geldof’s unvarnished opinion, criticism and praise.

The Bush regime has been divisive — but not in Africa. I read it has been incompetent — but not in Africa. It has created bitterness — but not here in Africa. Here, his administration has saved millions of lives. – Bob Geldof

It’s a different kind of tour report…

One Response to Geldof and Bush in Africa

    Dear Friends,
I am new in this Blog and sorry If I say what I mean and feel.
Bob Geldolf is talking about the Money the American Tax Payers are offering to save Africa, but Geldolf is not aware of the pressure African Leaders have to undergo.
I give a small example, ERitrean Government get help from Bush and in exchange dozen of Journalistists, and Intellectuals and Artists are imprisoned because of their Faith and Political Ideas.
Ethiopia has invaded Somalia and the President is executing and putting in Prison his Opponents. With the Idea of helping Central and Western African Nations from the thread of Islamic Forces, they are selling Arms which as it happened in Ethiopia (they were used against Eritrea and Somalia.)
Well maybe Bob Geldof is to young to remember what John Kennedy has done in Africa in the Sixties( USA for Africa.) Food, Scholarship and Friendship in respect of the Diversity of the People, What Jimmy Carter and last but not least Bill Clinton.
I do not see any good coming from Mr Bush Co-operation with Africa only the word “INTEREST OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” a phrase he likes always to repeat. But in spite of what he wrote,I tell you I was proud to meet Bob Geldof in Berlin during the Live Aid Concert and I hope one Day he and Bono can receive the African Award for their Contribution to Save our African Continent. until then they have Our Thank-You.
