The Boston Herald had a story a couple of weeks ago speculating on whether or not U2 would play at Fenway next year:

One of the interesting quotes from the article is:

Plus, Fenway officials were less than thrilled when the Stones’ behemoth stage tore up the outfield in 2005.

“The Rolling Stones weren’t a perfect fit for Fenway because their production was too big,” said Cancro. “U2 has a huge production, too. Usually we’re looking for more moderate stages.”

p.s. as for the album delay, remember U2 also has a new deal with Live Nation, which probably has some input in all this, and whose finances are shaky. Of course a lot of us would buy tickets to see U2 even if there isn’t a new album, but Live Nation is going to want to make sure it has the best package to sell.

Personally, I think the album delay is UNsurprising, given the band’s habit of projecting a release date, then pulling the plug for 6-12 months to “get it just right” (pretty sure this happened on each of the last two records – call it a Pop lesson). What really surprised me was when the original November08 date came out… now it all makes sense.

Honestly I don’t trust Bono’s story about the new album delay. I mean, I think there are undergoing problems beetwen some of them (producers included).
This delay it’s quite strange, anyway let’s see what they are able to do.

Bono is spotted doing this, Bono is spotted with so and so doing that. Too bad he’s hardly ever spotted working on U2 music. Maybe then we wouldn’t have to wait five year’s in between albums.

I love the man but I don’t get it. You say you’re going to postpone your album because you are on a roll, doing some really good songwriting. You don’t want to break this hot streak…. so you decided to go on vacation instead of working on the music????
