Neil McCormick on American Television

@U2 reader Eileen S. from Pittsburgh, Penn. saw the broadcast on a local cable show that featured Killing Bono author Neil McCormick earlier tonight. She was nice enough to Tweet some of the highlights, which are here, in Neil’s own words.

ON THE BOOK: “[My story] lets the world look at Bono from a different angle….he’s a pair of sunglasses, a caricature of an idea, but actually he’s a really great person.”

ON BEING A MUSIC CRITIC: “I’m actually a kind critic because I used to be a musician myself.”

ON THE FILM: “I’m about to be immortalized as a failure…It’s a very funny odyssey through rock’n’roll.”

“They didn’t take ME to Cannes. No one takes the writer anywhere!”

ON BONO: “[He] has very strong root in his Christian faith. It allows him to play with this other character with the sunglasses.”

ON HIS TOP 5: “Stones, Beatles, Dylan, Oh, U2 of course!…and Joni Mitchell (let’s put a woman in there — she’s a great writer).”

He also went on to mention other bands and artists (Elvis Costello, etc.) until his interview concluded.

Those in the Pittsburgh area can also catch Neil on Pittsburgh Today Live tomorrow morning (5/26) at 9:00 a.m. local time.
