Paperless Ticket Update
I am in a very thankful mood that U2 did not go this route. Matter of fact, ticket drops have been happening for upcoming 360 shows. Foxborough GAs were released just today. I firmly believe that the way U2 has flooded the market with the 15,000 or so extra tickets available for each show has made the resellers market not as hot as we once thought it would be back before the tour began.
For those keeping up on this topic, Steve Jones reports in Monday’s USA Today that not only are Miley Cyrus and AC/DC continuing to do paperless tickets, but Springsteen is getting in on it too. While Cyrus is doing it for all of her tickets, AC/DC and Springsteen have chosen to offer it only to the higher priced seats. Acts like Kenny Chesney and Brad Paisley have also chosen this route.
Not surprising, the ticket brokers are finding success around this system. Pollstar editor Gary Bongiovanni told Jones: “I’ve heard of ticket brokers throwing (pre-show) parties, then walking everybody to the arena and getting them in with the credit card they used. If there’s a way to game the system, the brokers are going to find it.”
