PHOTO: Bono’s New Fender “Goal Is Soul” Guitar

It looks like Bono will soon have a new toy to play with: A custom-built Fender guitar with his signature “Goal Is Soul” motto.

The folks at the Fender Custom Shop in Phoenix just tweeted this photo about an hour ago:

Verrrrrry nice, isn’t it?

But you don’t think this will actually replace the also-gorgeous “Goal Is Soul” Gretsch Irish Falcon guitar that he’s been using for years, do you?

(thx to @wildcat630 for the tip on this)

If Bono hold this guitar, he better play it. A Telecaster looks ridiculous if you’re faking it. It looks amazing, by the way.

It looks like it’s a hollow or semi-hollow body, with Gretsch-style pickups. In other words, it’s a Telecaster but one with a bunch of Gretsch-like traits. I wonder if the big old Gretsch is a bit ungainly for someone with serious back problems. Just sayin’

The Fender gives Bono less wheight to carry. I can imagine that a classic Gretsch like that and Bono’s also-classic-back don’t go well together. It’s all about ergonomics…

Didn’t he auction off the Gretsch for Hurricane Katrina relief? So maybe this is the replacement..? I haven’t seen them live since October 2009 and ID remember if Bono played guitar at that show or not. I know he doesn’t always. But I will be at the Seattle show this weekend. Anyone else gonna be there?

It ‘kinda’ looks like B-mans playing this on The Fly – 2nd Anaheim show.. but it doesnt have the pick guard on it from looking at videos.
