Terry Lawless (Bono calls him “Terryworld”) has been playing with U2 in the “underworld” (under the stage providing supporting instrumentation) for 15 years, and his keyboards are prominent throughout No Line On The Horizon. While not on tour with U2, Terry performs with a number of different groups on the Central Coast of California, and also owns and operates his own studio where he specializes in recording, editing, mixing, and many other cutting-edge production techniques. I went to hear him on January 1, in a tiny little pub with 30 or 40 people, and witnessed firsthand his mastery of the Hammond organ and tenor saxophone, while jamming with a very talented blues trio from Seattle. It was a rare and wonderful treat. (See www.terrylawless.com/ for more info)
Terry is also an avid supporter of the school music program where he lives, and that brings me to a rather novel and exciting announcement. In conjunction with Live Nation, Terry is offering, through a school fundraising raffle, two VIP tickets and a personal behind-the-scenes visit on the next leg of U2’s tour. The winner of the raffle will get to pick the date and location of the concert once those details are announced (please don’t ask… no one knows when that will be!).
Tickets are $5, and can be purchased at this link (http://orcuttbattleofthebands.3dcartstores.com/). The drawing is February 6, and the winner does not need to be present. All proceeds will go to benefit the Orcutt Academy High School PTSA. Those who purchase a raffle ticket will receive a ticket number via email.
This is your chance to support a good cause and experience a U2 show from a unique perspective. I already got my tickets, and I’m pretty sure I have a better chance at this raffle than that 1.5 billion dollar Powerball jackpot!
Good luck to all!
