Sherry, that printing style seems to be unique to Boston. My understanding is NY tickets are the typical Green/White/Grey. Chicago is exactly the same as it was '01 and '05

A quick look for boston concert tix on Ebay shows that Springsteen tickets are Green and white (probably the same colors as NY/NJ), so it looks like the purple is either new or unique to U2 (though Live Nation tickets seem to ahve more designs).

I also noticed a u2 auction with white tickets (not on the floor):
http://i2.ebayimg.com/02/i/001/3f/18/211a_1.JPG
They may have been purchased at the venue.

Given the colors, I kinda think it's an attempt to preven counterfiet tickets. I would think that photcopiers would have trouble copying black on purple.

I think its a Gilette Stadium thing. I went to a Patriots game in 2007 and my ticket was just as ugly. Hot pink instead of purple with SRO in the background.
Maybe those of us who don't have an actual seat get the ugly ones.

I got my Chicago Ticketmaster reserved seating tickets in the mail today. They're the standard Ticketmaster tickets; look the same as the Vertigo tickets I got for St. Louis and Chicago in 2005.

The colored background is only on the GA tickets, Sherri. I have both seats and GAs for Gillette, and the seated tickets do not have the solid color background. I assume it's to easily distinguish the GAs from all others.

I got my ticket for the first Toronto show this week. It looks like a theater ticket and it's gold.

Edwardo - If you saw European tickets from past tours, they had the logo of the tour with reflective imprint to thwart people from fake tickets. Previous ticketmaster tickets for North American shows were your standard gray or blueish ticket, but you could at least read the imprint on the ticket. Black print on a purple background (well, purple and white) makes it harder to read the print. As many hold onto their ticket stubs as a collectible, this ticket design looks like someone created it in Microsoft Word. It just looks ugly!

Niterpi - Keep checking back Ticketmaster for GAs as they will dump more between now and the date of the show. Also, you might find some GAs in the $252 range as they've released some in the (RED)Zone that aren't going up for auction, rather get guaranteed cash to donate to (RED). All is not lost on the GA front for Gillette.

Bostonguy - yeah, it should say Field Standing! Note to self: wear comfortable shoes =)
