Have you seen this? It’s like a travelguide for U2-important sites. Not exhaustive by any means, but still a cool resource.

I have a U2 penpal(we met thru the old Propaganda magazine almost 20 years ago)in San Francisco and my sister and I met up with her one year.We camped in
Yosemite,stayed at Lake Tahoe and Reno then drove to Mono Lake and finally
ended up in Bodie,the ghost town on the cover of The Joshua Tree.Amazing trip
and the scenery is mind-blowing.Highly recommend it for anyone thinking of a
vacation ‘In God’s Country’.

I admire your perseverence in making TWO trips to find it. I can assure you that if you were within a hundred yards there would be no mystery to where it is! However, with it now on the ground, I’m not sure I’d be able to find it if I hadn’t been there before.

I have taken two trips out there from the UK to find the tree and each time got a bit closer. Last time I must have got within a hundred yards of it, but found a similar tree which I mistook for the actual one. It’s in the most breathtakingly beautiful place and I will get there finally later this year. The real fascination for me would be to know the story behind the plaque.

I may be incorrect ,however I believe While there are more than one deserts and more than one joshua tree in the US, the ” Joshua Tree Monument park” is located in the high desert of the state of California ,where the original tree of u2`s pilgrimage stood.
