Words With Friends is pretty fun, but also kinda frustrating when it tells you that “zooropa” isn’t a word.
Are there any games out there for your iPhone, Android phone or iPad that actually understand the U2 fan? Well, as it turns out, there are a couple.
One is a great game called SongPop. It’s basically a modern version of “Name That Tune.” You choose a category (80s Music, Love Songs, One-Hit Wonders, etc.) and challenge someone else to see how quickly they can identify five songs. There are also several dozen artists that have their own categories, like Arcade Fire, Billy Joel, Jay-Z and so forth.
Some of us have been longing for the day that there’s a U2 category on SongPop … and it turns out that the wait may not be too much longer. As Brent Green told us on Twitter, the SongPop creators are saying in their forums that a U2 category is “planned.”
Hallelujah! That can’t happen soon enough.
Meanwhile, another game already has a U2 category. It’s called QuizUp and it’s a pretty standard trivia game with hundreds of categories. You can play random games against strangers or challenge friends. Each game is seven questions and the U2 category is pretty good:
As you play, QuizUp keeps track of your progress — I’m hoping to move higher up the master chart for the U2 category, but I have a looong way to go to catch some fans.
In the course of doing U2 quizzes, I’ve bumped into a few @U2 readers and at least one of our forum members!
Are you playing either of these games? Drop your name in the comments if you’re looking for fellow U2 fans to play against. (I’m Matt McGee — or maybe just “mattmcgee” — on both games.)
