U2 Makes Another “Greatest” List

It seems that every week or so, we see another list from a magazine or TV station that lists U2 as the “greatest” of something.

The most recent one, which was brought to my attention by @U2’s Marylinn Maoine, includes “Where the Streets Have No Name” as one of the Top 100 greatest guitar songs. You can find the whole list at the Rolling Stone site.

Though I agree that “Streets” is a worthy choice, my first pick by our heroes would’ve been “The Fly.”

What would your U2 guitar song pick be?

“The Fly” for sure. Good call. Edge’s extended guitar solo/bridge is one of my all-time U2 highlights, not to mention an amazing guitar display. Of course The Fly’s main riff alone should justify it’s inclusing in the RS list.

How about “Bullet the Blue Sky”…especially the live Zoo TV Version….The Edge’s solo was stellar

Definitely going to agree on Bullet in the blue sky, that’s spectacular. I’ve always liked the solo in the middle of “one” also, listen to the version from the slane.

I agree with Dave Mattews. That guitar solo just blows me away every time.

It’s not a “greatest guitar solo” list.

It’s a “greatest guitar song” list.

    Huge difference.

Yes, but a solo can most definitely help make a song a “great guitar song” just as a good hook could as well (“Mysterious Ways,” for example).

I’m fine with the solo references, if that’s one of the main reasons someone considers it “great.”

In a Little While has some lovely guitar work and so does Fast Cars. I don’t want to hear guitar hero type solos, I like musicality. Count me out on “Bullet.” It’s always struck me ae very self-indulgent and more of a statement than a song.

Until the End of the World – but moreso live than on the album version.

My choices would be for ‘Pride’, ‘Stories for boys’, ‘All because of you’ and ‘Bad’! :D
