@U2 U2 3D Afterparty Roundup

Congratulations go out to Sally K., for winning the grand prize at the Boston U23D afterparty: a Gibson Epiphone acoustic guitar, generously donated by the Hard Rock Cafe.
Kudos to all of the other winners of U2 DVDs prior to the film’s screening and later on at the Hard Rock Cafe!
Miracle Drug rocked the house for over 2 hours, with many swingin’ to the music (oh oh oh oh oh). During their 2nd set, they donned Bono’s Signature Series Edun LIVE shirt.
Thanks to everyone who made tonight’s event a success! Check out photos from the festivities here.
It feels like a post-show hangover….so, from a very sleepy @U2 staff…g’nite y’all!

Sherry & the @U2 team,
quite a night in boston. I was able to secure a center seat, about 1/2 of the way up with my two kids. The experience couldn’t have been better. My personal HIghlights: getting splashed with water during Vertigo; being “on-stage” with Edge and Dallas during the guitar change between Sunday Bloody Sunday and Bullet the Blue Sky; the entire duration of One; feeling like I was next to Larry Mullin Jr. playing drums; crowd surfing during many of the songs… For those of you thinking about bringing kids – the sound is nothing short of perfect. I brought plugs with me, gave them to my kids (11 & 9 years old) but they never needed them. The volume and power of the sound was perfectly balanced. Bring your patience with you, as waiting to get in was poorly managed by the NEAQ staff. Thankfully, everyone was cool in the line. Once inside, U2 rock n’ roll heaven awaits. I’m going again. My rating: Catorce thumbs UP!

There were technical difficulties with the 6:00 screening of U23D, which caused a 30 minute delay in getting the film started. That delay caused a domino effect for the 8:00 showing. The theater staff worked hard to clear the theater (which was a mess of beer bottles and popcorn) from the 6:00 show. There was also a Nielsen’s Ratings survey that was handed out to attendees for the 8:00 showing, which wasn’t given out at the 4:10 or the 6:00 earlier in the day.
I have to say – the 8:00 show was by far the most spirited of all 3 for the day, with people clapping when the lights went down, some in the back were standing along and singing, and fans were psyched.
I’m agreement with you, Kevin – the sound was balanced, and used to add drama with the way the voices circled around the room with the audience fading in and out based on the amount of drama they wanted to add to the point in the film.
We brought our young boys to the 4:10, and were amazed that it sold out! I felt pretty smart having bought our tix online in advance. No standing and singing at our show, but still a lot of fun! (We opted for earplugs for our boys, since they’re just 5 and 7.)
So, anybody organizing another group show in the next couple of weeks?
great thoughts Sherry! I thought I saw you walk in just before the 4:10 show with 2 other @U2 staff members. One more thought on the movie: The Fly continues to amaze time & time again. In 3D, the Fly really comes to life, and was one of the times you could hear the crowd in the theater go ‘whoooah…’ Another wonderful moment was during “Sometimes… ” Seeing Larry drum like that, with the 3D and the sound you really felt those drums like you were right there next to Larry. Edge’s slide solo during that song was blistering.
Cheers, Kevin
Hi, I was thrilled to win the guitar at the HRC at the afterparty. The movie was great! Thanks to Sherry and the @U2 staffers for putting together a great evening and thank you to Miracle Drug!
We thoroughly enjoyed playing for such a great crowd last night at the Hard Rock in Boston. I hope everyone there had a great time and a safe return home.
We can’t wait to rock you guys again sometime in the near future. We hope to be back at the Hard Rock around St. Patty’s ‘08.
I will filling in for 2U’s singer Friday Feb. 1 at the Hard Rock Cafe at Foxwoods in CT. Hope to see u there 2.
God Bless,
Jono
