U2’s History of Activism in New Book

The World and U2: One Band’s Remaking of Global Activism presents and examines the band’s evolution as activists, its influence on activism, and the critiques that have emerged in response to U2’s work. It’s by Alan McPherson, professor of International and Area Studies at the University of Oklahoma. I’ve read it and it strikes me as a good one-stop read on the topic.

McPherson posted his announcement on the U2 Studies Exchange. A complete review of the book is forthcoming for the U2 Studies Network.

One Response to U2’s History of Activism in New Book

U2invented activism back in the 80s when few were doing it. Now everyone who thinks they’re someone is doing it, but you can’t be someone if the people you’re trying to help don’t see you or know who you are. I’m sure there are those types. It’s more important to triumph a cause near and dear to your heart than just to do it because someone else does or thinks you should.
