What’s with the steering wheel microphone?

This image has been posted in our forum a couple times now (like here), but I don’t remember where it originally came from. It’s a photo from last week’s rehearsals in Barcelona, and the thing I circled looks like a steering wheel hanging down, with a microphone attached.
What the %$#!%#$????????
Anyone have an educated guess what that thing really is, or what it might be?

I was thinking much the same thing a few days ago!
“[W]hat’s with Bono’s boxing ring announcer microphone? (Popmart entrance persona: boxer. 360: announcer.)” (http://bit.ly/1cjYV)
Also, that could come across as a combination microphone / periscope, in Bono’s mind, which leads me to predict he’ll clutch it and pretend to look through it when he gets to the “I got a submarine!” line in Boots.
No clue whatsoever, but looking at photo 23 to 29 from this set of pictures from couple of days ago it actually looks like he can toss it away as well…and it swings right back…

It’s a statioary microphone, mounted to the Claw. “I thought the world revolved around me…”. Bono stands still while the entire stage rotates behind him.
btw bono is huge into boxing right now. is hot in ireland right now.
The better question: “What’s with the plum colored pants??!”
Perhaps the mike is in preparation to sing ‘Zoo Station?’
Now, if only they’d rehearse that one . . . it might be certain.
Could it be their rehearsing the beginning of “electrical storm” on this pic? Edge seems to have an acoustic guitar, which would be needed for that part.
Yeah, would be great if the mic was in preparation for “Zoo station”…
You’re all wrong.
Right before they showed up in Barcelona, Edge invented an antimatter power source for the entire claw. The ENTIRE stadium is powered by that little martini-shaker. Talk about reducing their carbon footprint.
It requires constant monitoring and since Edge is the only one who knows how that thing works, Willie decided the safest place to put it was in plain sight. He suspended it by a $1.29 nylon rope from WalMart. Edge has given his word everything will be just fine as long as Bono doesn’t try to shake it all over the audience.
Here’s your REAL answer (SPOILER): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9T8oTYhil-Y
