I learned something interesting about the song. Greg Lake incorporated a Prokofiev melody called “Troika” from the 1933 film Lieutenant Kije. If you listen to Edge’s guitar part between the verses, you can hear it clearly. Delightful to know that’s the “classical music” that Greg refers to.

I remember buying Greg Lake’s single way back in ’75 and I was an Emerson Lake & Palmer fan long before I became a U2 fan, so U2 covering one of the best Christmas songs ever is incredible!
I love Edge’s guitar, so subtle yet so powerful and Bono’s vocal gives me chills.I love it!

I definitely want to see Greg sing this with U2. How about on Conan O’Brien next Christmas? Or even this Christmas. I’m in love with the guitar part, and the halo around Bono’s head at the end is sparkly.

Now there is a great, yet humble man. Great story, would love to see Greg get up with the band maybe this Christmas or next and sing it live.
