You and Bono, alone in a restaurant

Live vicariously for a moment through your fellow @U2 reader Mike P., who bumped into Bono on October 24th at a Santa Monica restaurant called Ivy at the Shore. You’ll love this video. Ladies/Moms: the first 23 seconds will make you melt.

How cute is that with the baby? And did you hear Bono ask, “Were you at New York?” and then say, “Second night … I think that might be the best night of the tour.”

Too freakin’ cool.

It’s funny … U2 (the business side) really struggles at times in its relationship with U2 fans. Fan club problems and ticket pre-sales are a good example of that. But U2 (the band itself) is almost always phenomenally generous and genuine when relating to U2 fans on a one-to-one basis. And this video is a great example of that.

Great video. Only wish it could have been longer. I would imagine if you get the chance to meet Bono, M2, you would desire a one on one just like this rather than the typical fan and mega star on a pedestal. 😉

That video definitely made my day! How amazing that Bono took the time to chat and to hang out with the little guy…melted this Momma’s heart for sure!

If I recall correctly, m2 did have a chance to meet the Hewsons, but he was too classy to interrupt their day at Disneyland.

@Keir – I am familiar with that story and to be honest, I probably would have done the same thing M2 did. Now if we were standing in the same line for a Disneyland attraction, I’d most definitely would take the opportunity to strike up a conversation but with discretion, especially if no one else recognized the famous family.

Wow-thanks m2!!! This is just another example of the gentleman that Bono is. In all these years, I have never heard of a fan saying he (or the other U2ers) were anything less than gracious.

It was great to hear that he called the concert I attended (NYC #2) the best of the tour. So cool!!

Great video and lucky for them! 🙂 Bono looks great and very relaxed, and what a thrill to get a one on one with him.

This is so sweet. I always hear great stories about Bono meeting his fans. I met him a few years ago in NY, and he was just as kind, patient and down to earth with the fans who were there as he is in this video. Despite what some people may think – he’s a good listener, very alert, and very respectful to his fans.

O Bono é uma pessoa maravilhosa mesmo, adorei o vídeo e como eu gostaria de estar neste restaurante também!

My wife and I had the chance to meet the guys (sans Larry) a few years back. My wife was prego at the same time as Ali so Bono took the opportunity to spark up a conversation about ultrasounds, genders, due dates etc… he must have been missing his family. It was surreal. Anyways, he was so dialed into who ever he was talking to it was astounding (even with multiple people vying for his attention). He tried to give each person his undivided attention and have a genuine conversation. I give the guy huge props for that. A remarkable gentleman that Bono.

digsy – I told him that one of the best moments of the tour was before “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”, when he asked the crowd to raise our hands if we were from outside of Ireland. I told him the look on his face was so incredible…..and that’s when he says on the video he was shocked.

probably the nicest rock star you’ll ever meet! thanks for posting…it was awesome to see how much of an average guy Bono still is.

  19. BoNo FReaK November 5, 2009 at 12:20 pm #

In response to what mike posted about Bono being shocked about how many people were from outside of Ireland at the Ireland show, and being shocked– it NEVER amazes me at the lengths true U2 fans will travel to see their fave band live. At Chicago on Sept. 12th– I met one young guy from Chile, another guy from Johannesburg, South Africa, another guy from Texas, a guy from Tennesee, and a girl from Michigan….

Hey, i was at the Rosebowl, we were very close in the line and you guys started telling us the story and showed us the pictures, that’s a really cute video, i remember they started playing “Magnificent” when we were talking about it, thanx for sharing!!

This is such a great video – it’s amazing how Bono focuses on a single person when there’s a lot going on around him. I met him (and Edge) prior to a concert in Houston on the Vertigo tour. Yes, other people were around, but he stopped and talked with each one of us. One of his many gifts is how special he makes everyone feel.

Love the interaction with the baby – precious!

Very cool. I was at NYC-2 so that pumps me up! I thought it was a great night as well.

I met Bono in New York outside a VH-1 studio in 2001, i think it was. A friend and I traveled north from North Carolina with tickets to the VH-1 event from a third friend. Bono heard that two clowns drove all the way from NC. After the show, we waited outside with others. He came up to us, assuming we wanted autographs. We said, “oh we don’t want autographs. We just want to say thank you. We’re in a band and we’re inspired by your music.” He was gracious; he’d probably heard that a million times. But he asked us about our band and where we play.
“Oh,” he says. “You’re the guys who came up from North Carolina. You did that just for this?”
And, trying to avoid being stereotyped as lame fans–which we were–we told him that we have friends in New York and that we were always up for a road trip.
My friend says, “and i wanted to see you during pop, but your tv screen broke and you canceled the show.” (u2 did cancel the show in Raleigh due to “equipment malfunction”.
Bono, clearly embarrassed, says, “Yeah, we need to get that thing fixed.”
And before you know it, we’re talking to him about our band, the daybreakers.
    “Cool name,” he says.
And if others hadn’t demanded autographs, it seemed as if Bono would’ve taken us next door for a Guinness.
Nicest egomaniac in the world! 🙂

I met Bono on my 32nd Birthday. I was a dork and had a sign that said “I want Adam for my birthday”
he came over to me and I was like ‘Bono it’s my birthday'(duh) and he held out his arms to give me a hug and said “Happy Birthday” and I snuck a kiss on the cheek. (Oh my god my mouth was on Bono!!! Adam your next : )
    I am born again!!!
