Another Spidey Injury
It was reported today that Natalie Mendoza, who plays “Arachne” in Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, will be off work for at least a week due to an injury she sustained during the preview, Nov. 28.
Apparently the star was hit in the head by a flying rope at the debut performance and suffered a concussion as a result. Her understudy America Olivo will assume her role until she is able to return.
The multiple injuries that have resulted from rehearsals and performances in this show make me wonder if Taymor should bring in the pros from Cirque du Soleil® to safely train actors for the stunts.
It seems as if she could use the help.

The people at Cirque get hurt too. It’s part of the business. They aren’t under the sane media microscope or armchair theater critic’s scrutiny.
Iskra,
I wasn’t implying that they don’t get hurt—only that by now, they know how to avoid it better than any other “flying” organization.
Didn’t they say something about using folks from Cirque du Soleil in the 60 minutes interview? I might be mistaken, but I thought the reporter mentioned something along those lines…
After the last injury, Ill bet they’re sorry they chose the song title “Boy falls from the sky”
