Many in the U2 community were a bit surprised at Bono’s videotaped introduction of Dierks Bentley at last night’s Academy of Country Music Awards ceremony. What many did not realize is that they have built a friendship through their shared interest in philanthropy and music.
Bentley recorded “Pride (In The Name Of Love)” with fellow bluegrass legend Del McCoury and the Punch Brothers in 2010. Their recording was nominated for a Grammy award.
During Saturday’s ACM rehearsals, Dierks explained his connection with Bono:
Prior U2′s stop in Nashville on the U2 360 Tour, Dierks and other country artists were invited to meet with the band.
