Boston (heart)’s U2

U2′s first American fan, WZLX DJ Carter Alan, is asking U2 to fill the heart-shaped hole in their tour schedule and come back to Boston. On the WZLX website he writes, “I’ve contacted the band to remind them that there’s a conspicuous hole in their tour schedule next summer. After the ’360′ world tour plays Philadelphia on July 14, there is nothing on the schedule until July 23 in New Jersey.”

He is even taking it one step further and asking fans to personally contact U2 themselves to request a Boston concert. “I urge everyone to contact U2′s organization, website or even their relatives in Ireland (because I’m sure there’s a couple) to ask them to play Gillette Stadium next summer. We’ll do what we can here!” Alan writes.

As a fellow Boston-area U2 fan, I would agree that not having U2 come back up to our neck of the woods is, well, insane. But, after paying $40 to park at the stadium, and have people in 3+ hours of non-moving traffic to just get out of the stadium, as well as having sound bouncing around the stadium, I can understand why the production has currently bypassed this neck of the woods. However, if you know you can sell out Gillette Stadium, then it’s just money in the bank for Live Nation and U2.

i’ve heard rumours that ‘the hole’ in between those dates is being considered for a city who’s never had the pleasure of having a u2 concert. Hope this letter writing campaign doesn’t take that away from them.

Coincidentally, Fenway Park, which has hosted a few concerts in recent years, will be available during that “hole” in the schedule, as the Red Sox will be on the road during that period.

Bring the tour to Fenway! Claw, meet the Green Monster!!

Even with the insane traffic to see U2 at Gillette I’d really like to see them come back to MA.

After the Gillette shows last year I received a survey from the Kraft group about the concert. I responded that I’d never go back due to the traffic situation. I’m guessing that there were lots of responses like mine which may be why U2 did not/has not/will not scheduled a Gillette show.

If they do hit MA please don’t play Fenway though. Fenway seems too small for the stage.

U2 fans (Boston/Hartford/Providence and other New England locales) need to move to Foxboro, take over the town government, capture all the property by eminent domain, tear everything down, rebuild an acoustic wonder of a stadium (and if it’s sub-optimal for football - screw the Pats), rebuild the lots and the roads to handle the high volume, and institute free parking. It’s that simple! Suddenly I feel massively apathetic…

    screw it, just play Hartford

I will never go back to Gillette Stadium and I told them that in their survey after the last show there. Terrible…….

Actually July 20 is New Jersey and July 23 is Minneapolis.

Fenway is the logical answer. The 360 tour needs to include the greatest sports venue in one of U2′s favorite cities in the world. Having seen The Police and McCartney there, I can vouch for it as a great, intimate outdoor concert venue.

Dumb selfish DJ. Awful arguement better stated and debated elsewhere, like U2.com where CT and other sites were suggested. Yes, the parking, set list, highways and sound were less than marvelous. The cops got off on policing an empty end zone. Please go elsewhere!

Ditto on the parking and traffic. U2 would come back there but the’re still stuck in the lot. Ba-boom.

I heard Bono hurt his back pushing the car cause they ran out of gas in the traffic jam. Ba BOOM!

Seriously though, what are we talking about? I just got in from last years U2 show at gilete stadium. Ba BAM! No really, I discuss this topic with everyone I ever meet from Boston. Get a real city where there are things like highways and cross streets. I guess it just feels like home to yer man what with all the traffic. Ba…ahh.

Another in the no way, no how on doing Gillette again column. I’m going to Philly - I’ll spend less time on the road from Hartford. I wish that were an exaggeration.
Now if they opted to do Rentschler Field, I’d be more inclined to put up with stupid traffic levels, likewise, Amherst.

Tip to deal with traffic & parking..bring friends to share the cost & tail gate in the parking lot after the show OR grab some food and drinks @ one of the many choices on the property. Also, I have been to many gigs through out the world and the parking lots and public transit systems are always backed up after the show so it’s not just Gillette.
