Friday Night Recap From Durham

What a great evening last night! I’m sure M2 and a few other @staffers will chime in when they can as we’re all at the U2 Conference this weekend. For those who couldn’t make it, here’s a few highlights:

-Conference attendees offered a standing ovation to Agnes Nyamayarwo as she took the stage at the Carolina Theatre to address everyone after viewing “The Heart of America.” This documentary was filmed in 2002 by Dominic DeJoseph as he followed Bono, Ashley Judd, Bobby Shriver, Chris Tucker and Agnes across America’s heartland to begin the journey of encouraging the American public to get behind what is known today as the ONE Campaign. Agnes shared that since 2002, daily deaths to AIDS has dropped from 6500 a day to approximately 4000. She said that much still needs to be done, and it is her dream to see an AIDS-free world.

-Watching “It Might Get Loud” with Neil McCormick commenting during the film that a photo his mum took was in the movie that Edge was commenting on. The film is a great look inside of how Edge’s style came to be and how he’s become the type of guitarist he is. It was also wonderful to see Jimmy Page and Jack White interact with Edge, and vice-versa.

Today it’s all about the interaction of the attendees as we delve into the paper presentations and knowledge exchange at the conferece, topped off with the U2 show at Carter-Finlay stadium about 30 minutes up the road.

I’m really looking forward to hearing from Anthony DeCurtis this morning - what a treat to have him sharing his perspective with all of us!

Keep up with all the conference news on Twitter. More updates as they come.
