Man Crushes

Larry in Boston 2005 (c) Phil Romans/@U2

I know the ladies out there have a crush on our Hitman, but more and more guys are coming out and admitting they have a crush on him too - and it’s not just Boy George this time!

In Sunday’s Irish Independent, Brendan O’Connor admitted that he has a man crush on Larry as well. Here’s what he had to say about spotting him this past Saturday:

A LARRY MULLEN spotting in Eden. While the ignorant among you may think, “Jesus, O’Connor, give us a proper spot. He’s only the drummer. What about a spotting of Bono, or the other fellah, the Edge,” that’s where you’d be wrong. A spotting of the lesser-spotted Larry is the ultimate. You’d catch Bono out on the town any night between Wednesday and Sunday and the Edge is fairly common too. Adam Clayton and Larry are the real exclusives. And there’s also the fact that God, Larry looks good. If Irishmen were to admit to a slight man-crush, most of them would probably say Larry.

If nothing else, he gives great hope for Irish guys. He shows we can be good-looking in an old-fashioned, handsome, movie-star way. If Irish guys are attractive, it’s usually in the rugged or interesting-looking way, boxers’ noses and big jaws and stuff, or we have a great personality or something else useless like that. Larry just looks good like Brad Pitt looks good. Larry is eye candy.

And age isn’t diminishing him. And he always had the dignity to appear troubled by the worst excesses of U2 — like the Pop album.

I love the line “Larry is eye candy.”

“And he always had the dignity to appear troubled by the worst excesses of U2″ LOVE it!

And yeah, sooner or later, they all realize the beauty that is this man!

Oh, yes, he is eye candy that’s for sure. Besides, he is an Elvis fan, so of course he will look “old-fashioned, handsome, movie-star way” rather than “boxers’ noses and big jaws”. Brad Pitt??? Forget Brad Pitt, he is not even in the same zip code as Larry. Am I, as someone said “salivating over Larry Mullen’s biceps” (and other things)? In the words of General Patton “Every God damned day!”

larry mullen even rocked the mullen mullet. it wasn’t until U23D that I came to appreciate how damned sexy that slick back could be. which is not to say I’m not thanking higher powers daily that it is gone! :-)

I have to disagree. it really wasn’t a mullet (short in the front and sides and long in the back) and it was and still is long haired fashionable, and not out of style mullet

Larry has always been the eye candy of the group. He was adorable in the 80′s and has aged gorgeously. Although I think the fact that he is the pretty boy of the group irks him!

Yeah, I think being ‘the beautiful one’ or the ‘eye candy’ does get on his nerves, but I think he’s come to terms with it better now than in the 80s. The simple fact is he’s a very good looking man, and he has aged almost imperceptibly. Even Bono’s called him Dorian Grey.

Though the comparison the Brad Pitt…urgh. No. Just no.

Yeah but for years now, ever since he went off meat (yet on to bull’s blood injections), Larry has looked terribly pastey in person. Gross really.

I think Larry looks better now than he did 20 years ago. He’s not full of himself in anyway and presents himself in such a cool way.Eye Candy is an understatement,he’s like a Fine Wine.Gets better with age!

He was, and still is a icon in the gay community :P
If he was gay, he’d sure be taken :P

I have to agree with Party Girl, about the fact he’s become a lot more pastey looking.
