Random blogging notes
Since it’s de rigeur for blogs to take part in the blogosphere (I hate that word), we should mention here that the San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper has started a Vertigo 2005 Tour blog. Still new, but I’ll be curious to see what kind of stuff gets posted there next week when U2 finally gets to their wonderful city.
And by the way, those of you who do live in San Diego have no business also getting the world tour to start there — just living in SD is blessing enough. You lucky, lucky people….
About this blog: It really needs a redesign, doesn’t it? The biggest problem from a functional standpoint is that the left-side column is too thin - look down under “Prior Posts” at how the titles of each post are all jumbled together because they wrap across several lines. I’m thinking we can fix that, change the blog design a bit and still matching the @U2 “brand”.
Opinions, please: Should we change the design here a bit?

I actually like the fact the blog looks a lot like the normal site.
I agree with Andy that keeping the @U2 brand “look” is important, but yes - I would like the “prior posts” not to wrap as much as they have to currently.
The branding is how I know I’m at @U2, so would it be possible to just shrink the lefthand margin a bit in order to spread out the column listing previous posts? (Also - I find the similarities of the two colour schemes a hair confusing - possibly a shift there as well?)
The only thing I’m thinking should change is the 3-column approach. I think the right column can be killed off (here on the blog only), which would allow the left column with the navigation to spread wider — and also allow the main content column to be wider, as well. I might ditch all the links to each section of @U2 (lyrics, pix, etc.) and just have one link back to the home page … we’ll see.
Branding would stay the same — same header graphic at top, same color scheme, etc.
This, at least, is what I have in mind today.
I hate the word “blogosphere” too. In fact, I hate the word “blog” even more. I still refer to them as web logs when I mention them in conversation.
“Blog” sounds like someone barfing.
Anyway…
I personally think it’s fine to change the blog. Keep the atu2 at the top of the page, and the same color scheme. But sometimes it’s necessary to adjust a little to allow for ease of use, and I think blogs are a good spot for that. You can even take it down to 2 columns- that would still look the same but allow for the “recent posts” to have room.
heh.. or, yeah, what you said Matt.
