Scattered Thoughts: Boom Boom POW!

Since we’re talking about the claw (and I do totally get the toy machine claw vibe, too), I have to say that in its current form, the claw also looks like a roller coaster to me. And a little bit like a crazy, old school, Godzilla monster.

What it doesn’t look like, exactly, is the claw graphic on U2.com. That sketch has a much more futuristic, sci-fi vibe than the mega hunk of metal being reported on by fans in Werchter. We are definitely still in the “sausage making” stage, if that makes sense. The claw is in progress, but you know that on opening night there will be some aspect to this finished product that we haven’t quite seen yet. I *really* can’t wait to see how The Bono weaves this crazy claw into being a symbol of this tour’s theme. (Whatever that theme might be).

Maybe because I am not as kind and gentle as others (or because I still have Star Trek 2009 on the brain), I am hoping the Claw Tour’s theme involves magnificent… lasers. And possibly a space ship. That blows things up

Yeah?

For example, on select North American tour stops, I would like the U2 Claw to utilize its lasers to shoot at the Black Eyed Peas. Do you think they are listed as an opening act for real? Or are they being set up for the laser claw to destroy them? Boom Boom POW!

I’d like the claw to showcase the evil, more menacing side of U2. The one I always read about in the Daily Mail and the Irish Independent. Come on, evil U2. Inhabit your alternate reality. On opening night, let your claw hone in on the members of the British tabloid media in attendance and blast their asses bums with a laser beam.

Hey inattentive people in the crowd, no bathroom breaks during Fez-Being Born or you.get.BLOWED.UP.

Eye shadow hating, lyric berating enemies of The Bono be gone. The laser will destroy you.

Crazy? (Me?) Probably

But … really:

    beautiful.

and yeah, Star Trek was a great film. For the first time, I felt cool telling my friends about how awesome Romulan Warbirds are.

I love this post. It will be fun to see U2 attempt to be gravity defying again. Part of me longs for the barebones 1999-2000 version of the band but the other part of me wants a return to PopMart and The Fly.

The question I have is why does it have to be so big just so they can play in a a round. What does the Claw actually do?

    Hi.
I’m Flor and I’m from Costa Rica. I’m living in the UK at the moment and I’m going to go to the U2 concert in August.
I was wondering if anyone else, who’s using this blog, is going?

Am I the only one who’s been staring at the picture right below the one of The Claw, and wondering what the hell that’s supposed to be? I’m so confuzzled. Is it supposed to be a spaceship? Do I need to get my eyes checked? All I see is a messy blob…

Dee, it’s a space ship from the Star Trek movie.

Sweet - thanks, caravox! Now that I’ve looked at it a little longer, I can sorta see it. :) I do need to get my eyes checked out though - this is just confirmation that I’m slowly growing even more blind than I already was. LOL!

I hope that the claw’s laser can also be aimed at the scurrilous scribling rodents who inhabit the offices of WORD magazine. :-)
