Scattered Thoughts: Questions For Leg 3
I’m pondering a few things as we approach the start of Leg 3 of the U2 360 Tour in Turin, Italy on August 6:
1. Have we seen the last of the steering wheel microphone? (Swinging on the hanging microphone, or even being tempted to do so doesn’t seem safe for B-Diddy in the aftermath of his back injury. Does it?)
2. If that is gone, or even if it is not, one could assume the band might change up the encore a bit anyway. How different will the whole vibe of the concert’s ending be?
3. At some point during the set, will U2 really be playing new, unreleased material to stadium sized crowds?
4. Will these songs be good? Great? Bad? Bon Jovi?
5. Desmond Tutu? Will he be back? Will *he* have new material?
6. WHAT WILL BONO’S HAIR LOOK LIKE?!?! (Woah, sorry, I almost put a very irrelevant question in there.)
6. WHAT WILL LARRY THE MULLEN JUNIOR’S HAIR LOOK LIKE? (Serious business: the Mullen hair seemed a tad darker in shade than usual in the “We’re Back” video. Or maybe it was just the lighting. Whatever. Rock bands need blonde dudes, Mullen. Get on it.)
7. If U2 chooses not to play songs from Pop, does that mean the album never existed?
8. House/Disco version of Cedars of Lebanon. Not a question. Just throwing it out there. Come on, people. Okay, that or Mofo. One or the other.
9. How about a song or two with The Edge on lead vocals? White As Snow? Not a joke. I think it could work. Stadium crowd will love it so hard! (Okay, last sentence was a joke.)
10. Hey you, jumping up and down and screaming louder for Vertigo than for any other song in U2′s set. STOP DOING THAT. Pretty please?
- sorry, I am clearly running out of steam here -
I am very much looking forward to seeing what the band has in store for this upcoming leg of the tour. Here’s to new songs in the setlist and, most importantly, to good health…

Edge on lead vocals on White As Snow would be *amazing.* Seriously. They need to get on that.
Year it’ll be interesting to see what happens in the next leg. They are going to have to shake it up a bit this time round. I’m hoping it will end up being much more emotionally charged seeing it’s unlikely Bono will be able to be as physically active as usual. That’s what I hope anyway! It’s quite nice to have this “mystery” ahead of the tour. I’m on the countdown myself 14 days to Frankfurt!
B-diddy?
The more serious question is…why did Larry shave off that awesome goatee he had going on?? Hard rocking Mullen!!
I could almost see a Perfecto version of Real Thing playing after I’ll Go Crazy. Would fit perfectly. And SBS needs a break…
I think they will blow off stadium’s roof with there rock and roll they do great wonderful Go!!!! Bono and The Edge. Robin Holland Age 25 from Hoyt Lakes,MN
Edge on lead vocals would be fine for me, but PLEASE not on White As Snow. It’s one of my all time favourite Bono voice moments. Seriously, hearing him sing that one live would just cause me major goosebumps. But I’m afraid it won’t happen, it would be such a momentum killer, even worse then Your Blue Room
And the wheel mic must not go!!!!! But please Bono, don’t hang yourself on it. He almost fell off stage by doing it several times last year. It looks funny, but man, the boy is clumsy! Just hold it and sing, ok, don’t get the stupid idea of doing anymore stunts with that thing. Watch your back, boy, literally.
It would be great if Edge sang lead vocals on *something.* And I hope there is some sort of new material in the near future, whether live or on a new album. As for the steering wheel, I would be surprised if that came back, not only because of Bono’s injury, but also for the sake of doing something different.
1. Hope not! After months of rest, physio, B’s back might be stronger than ever. Maybe even bionic.
3. Whatever happened to Moment of Surrender as a single? (One would think that they’d release a new single with the tour starting up again, either one from NLOTH or a new song.) I’d like the title track or Breathe as a single too.
5. Maybe The Arch could rap for a performance of Numb (feat. ISS astronauts).
8. Mofo = yes (perhaps alternating/replacing City of Blinding Lights.) Maybe rave version of MLK? (I humor thee.)
1. play acrobat so i can die already.
2. mash up vertigo / boots since they are the same song anyways.
4. howbout opening with being born and then rip through mofo, wire, end of the world, and, say, pete the chop?
3. maybe this sequence too: boy falls from sky (spiderman musical), even better than the real thing, hold me thrill me, remix of crazy tonight, mysterious ways?
5. the version of discotheque from the chicago vertigo shows. now that’s how you rework a song.
Hahaha I love the Pop comment. Cracked me up! I hope they bring some Pop tarts for the tour but who knows..great article
Haha. Pop never existed. Love it!
It would be fun to have Edge singing lead vocals. I’d love to hear Numb - create a mix that would work well in the stadium. Others I’d like to hear: Heartland, Rejoice, Red Hill Mining Town.
IN…
MOFO, ACROBAT, PLEASE, REAL THING, LOVE IS BLINDNESS, LAST NIGHT ON EARTH, GONE, 2-3 new songs
OUT…
SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY, ONE,
KEEP…
ULTRAVIOLET, UNTIL THE END OF THE WORLD
This is the big tour. Don’t apologize for it. Do the songs that this Spaceship was built for!! I want to see Evil Bono in Neon Glory! The complainers would complain no matter what. But the stadiums would rock regardless!
There are probably songs I’d like to hear less than White as Snow and Cedars, but I can’t think of one. They’re probably my least favorite on the album. Maybe a remix of Cedars would work, but I’m skeptical. Cedars, edge or no edge, will tank in a Stadium.
I’d love some pop (preferably not Gone, or the abreviated WUDM, though a full band version with solo and all is good).
hear! hear! , a small voice crys from the back of the room -
i agree with johnno - rock on regardless
if today’s u2.com countdown vid is any indication, B will be swingin’ this Friday! Let’s go UV.
