Scattered Thoughts: So Far … and Next?
So far, thanks in large part to some blanket BBC coverage of U2, we’ve heard/seen the band play four songs from the new album: Get On Your Boots, Breathe, Magnificent and No Line On The Horizon.
With U2 in New York this week for five appearances on the David Letterman Show and a Good Morning America concert (and who knows what else), plus the Boston club gig on March 11, I am wondering what else they might play from the new album. (If anything).
What songs do you think they’ll play this week? What would you like them to play? Do you think they’ll play more than one song per night on Letterman? Will we hear anything a bit more vintage than Beautiful Day and Vertigo? Can we please have Larry Mullen Jr. doing a Top Ten list?
I am hoping they play Breathe (because it is AWESOME), on night one on Letterman.

title track is simply massive - on the album and as performed here in the video.
it is one of their finest album openers to date
I am thinking Letterman will see them Peform Breathe, Boots, Magnificent, No Line On The Horizon and either I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight or Stand Up Comedy. Those seem to be the songs they talk about the most and I think Unknown Caller or Moment Of Surrender would be too long for a Late Night performance.
Just got out from the Leterman Late show taping. They performed “Breathe” at the end of the show. They were not interviewed and only played the one song. Got to meet them before the show where they signed autogographs and were asking what was our favourite song from the new album.

Very jealous of you, Kevin!
I can’t get No Line out of my head - for now, my favorite song on the album.
I predict they’ve picked Stand Up Comedy as the 5th song.
I just felt like posting to sound like a know-it-all. I picked four of the five songs they played on Letterman. Kinda disappointed about Beautiful Day being played on Thursday though… come on, play some new stuff! I liked the I Remember You add-on at the end though, that was nice.
To be honest though, I was really surprised they didn’t play No Line On The Horizon. I thought that one was more likely to be played than Stand Up Comedy or I’ll Go Crazy… to tell you the truth. Oh well, there’s always Good Morning America!
