U2.com Presale Issues

< rant > And I’m paying 25% more for this privilege! < / rant >

As of 7:15 a.m. EST, Fanfire confirmed that they are having “system-wide issues” in regard to U2.com’s presale codes and their customer service phone numbers suddenly being “out of service.” Fortunately, I had kept a very old email that had a different phone number that actually worked.

I spoke with “Mary” at Fanfire this morning to discuss my presale code suddenly stating that it had been used, which I know for a fact hadn’t. (Nothing like logging into U2.com to get the presale updates for this week only to find out that green presale code is no longer there and it’s been replaced by a red “this code has been used.”) She said that a supervisor will be coming in “in about two hours” to handle the situation and that there have been countless phone calls already today regarding this issue.

While I feel relieved that it’s not just me, it underscores the frustration fans are feeling towards Fanfire and why they’re now paying 25% more for U2.com when it seems the company fueling the site just can’t get things right.

At least they have 24 hours before the next round of presales.

I’ll update this blog post when I find out more.

UPDATE: 10:40 a.m. EST - Fellow @U2er Scott just renewed his membership this morning and got the same error message that the new code had been used. Definitely system-wide fail. Still no update from Fanfire on an ETA for fix.

UPDATE: Noon EST - Upon logging into U2.com and visiting “tours” the codes are now fixed. For those wondering, U2’s management was contacted about the issue and the fix happened quite quickly after that.

UPDATE: 1 p.m. EST - U2.com has issued a statement: “Some people have been reporting problems seeing their presale codes when they log-in. This is a temporary problem which will be fixed by the time the presales open. Rest assured that if you have a presale code in an email from us as a subscriber - and it has not been used for tickets - it will definitely work in the presales this week.”

FINAL UPDATE: 11:15 a.m. EST on Tuesday - successfully acquired 2 GAs using renewal presale code. No problems to report. Hurrah!

Glad I’m not the only one.

With the tour on hiatus and the RRHoF concert and his birthday behind him, this will give Larry something to focus on. Maybe he can leverage his apology letter from few years ago.

I renewed early for the Chicago presale. I have no faith that this will get fixed in time for it tomorrow.

LOL. Larry’s reaction to the ticket problem years ago still ticks me off.

I’m agree with the post by Greg. I have doubts about tomorrow.

The same thing is happening to me and a few of my friends! I resigned up for this for the Chicago presale as well! Ugh!!

Thanks for the heads up! Another mess for U2.com. I have been very easy on them in the past in our forum. I would say it is not an easy job and give them a chance, etc., etc.

Well, now I am more than upset. My presale is tomorrow at 10 am for NYC! What are they going to do if this can’t get this one fixed?

    What a mess!

On my confirmation e mail when I renewed in Sept. there is some kind of code. I am wondering if it is just the transaction code or perhaps my presale code. Just a thought. I can’t get through to ask anyone though.

A million thanks to @U2 for always being on top of things and keeping the fans informed!!!!!!

Updated last week and also the presale code has a status of used… Strange, thought it would be renewed the forthcoming days but it still isn’t. Waiting for new announcements for concerts in Europe. Glad I’m not the only one, but for sure this is not OK, hope they can fix this in the next days.

OK, so I heard that no presale will take place if this cannot get fixed today. Principle Management said they are “working on it.” Fanfire said they will know more after 3pm (Pacific). Don’t know if this is a fact, but they said the system was hacked in to and codes were stolen. Now that could be false, but we still need new codes.

I was told we would be e mailed as to what to do.

I called LiveNation.com and they were totally unaware of the problem. Both of my access codes state “used”. Had similar problems with fanfire last year.

    It’s fixed..

It is indeed fixed. My codes are there.

Thank you @U2 for your timely and helpful information. The fans appreciate it!

As of 12:21 PM Eastern time both of my codes are listed on U2.com.

As far as I’m concerned this doesn’t mean the code will work. I’d like to see them postpone the presale.

Fixed! All is right with the world.
Wonder if there is any truth the the “codes were hacked” theory.”

  13. [...] funny … U2 (the business side) really struggles at times in its relationship with U2 fans. Fan club problems and ticket pre-sales are a good example of that. But U2 (the band itself) is almost always phenomenally generous and [...]

Thank you U2.com for the codes. I know yesterday was not a great day for you. For those who truly work hard and do their best there, I (long time U2 fan) want to say thanks!

Got my code back, online at 3:00, had my GA receipt at 3:02. :) :) :) Now for the long wait.

I didn’t seem to have any issues with seeing my pre-sale code before yesterday. Weird… I’m glad it was resolved and hopefully everyone got the tickets they were hoping to get. :)

I renewed a couple of weeks ago, my presale code vanished the day before tickets when on presale. I contacted U2.com-they fixed it that morning AND sent me an email reply. I logged in at 3 p.m, and had my GA tix for 2 different shows by 3:08 p.m. Thanks U2. I will be a fan forever!

I bought 4 tickets to NY Concert in July without a problem…. the system and the presales code works good for me. See ya in NY!

  22. Beth 9 November 2009 at 8:15 pm permalink

Well, my code was OK at first, but then turned to red “already used” on U2.com sometime in the last couple days…. tonight’s presale email says it’s been used as well. But I haven’t used it. Apparently they’re still having problems.

  23. Jack 11 November 2009 at 10:22 am permalink

Its not resolved - its after 9am, presale opened several hours ago and they have not been able to give me a code. Same message as above. Been calling for the last two days… lucky I had a phone number.
