William Shatner to Cover U2 on New Album (SRSLY)

william-shatnerFrom the you-can’t-make-this-up department:

William Shatner is going to cover U2′s “In A Little While” on his next album.

Yes, that William Shatner … star of Priceline commercials, Star Trek, TJ Hooker and many more roles. He even announced it on his official website.

The album is called Searching for Major Tom and a lot of the songs he’s singing have space-related theme — “Space Oddity,” “Rocket Man” and more. You’ll look at the track list and think he was inspired by seeing a U2 360 show at some point, actually.

There’s no exact release date — the announcement just says later in 2011.

    In…
    A little… while…
    Surely…
    This hurt…
    Will hurt… no… more…

Backing vocal (Bones): He’s dead, Jim

    When the night…
    Takes…
    A deep breath…
    And…
    The daylight…
    Has… no… air…

    Backing vocal (Spock): Fascinating

    And…
    Follows…
    In the trail…
    The…
    Scatter…
    Of light…
    Turn it on…

    Backing vocal (Scottie): Energizing

    etc.

I’m an U2 fan and I’m a Star Trek fan but I really can’t immagine Shatner singing any U2 song…

“In A Little While” is one of U2′s best songs… and if you know the lyrics, you know exactly why he picked it. at first i was like, ‘that’s kinda random…’ but then i read the bit about all the songs having a space-related theme and i figured it out right away!! : )

i’ll probably never hear his version, though. i have this thing about the songs i like. i don’t want to hear anyone else singing them, ’cause then i invariably get their version stuck in my head, even if i only hear it ONCE!! : (
