More Help for Mothers of the Disappeared

In addition to the Mothers of the Disappeared group U2 sang about in 1987, there’s another organization working hard to find missing family members from the “Dirty War.” This article published today by CNN informs us of the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team (known more commonly by the Spanish acronym: EAAF).

As many of the leaders responsible for the crimes against humanity are finally standing trial, this group of archaeologists, forensic anthropologists and ballistics experts travel to locations where unspeakable human tragedies have occurred to locate and study the existing remains. They aim to identify the bodies/bones and return them to their families for proper burial and closure.

With help from victims’ family members who survived, they match up blood samples with recovered bones.

Nothing anyone does can bring back the families’ loved ones, but the closure of putting them to rest properly — and the evidence that may help convict their loved ones murderers — is certainly a step in the right direction.
